B.S.Ed. in Business Education

Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, this program leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education and Pennsylvania teacher certification in business, computer, and information technology for grades K-12.

The program in business education is dedicated to preparing teachers who will be qualified and certificated to instruct students to live and work in a business environment.

In 2000, the business education program was honored as the nation’s outstanding program by the Association for Career and Technology Education.

The major is intended for those interested in teaching in public elementary, junior/middle, and senior high schools; vocational-technical schools; private business schools; or industry. Students have a choice of the following certification areas: marketing education or business, computer, and information technology.

A minimum grade-point average, in accordance with Pennsylvania standards, is required to apply for admission to teacher education, to take major courses in the department, and to student teach. The candidates for certification must also complete successfully the core battery and specialization sections of the Praxis examinations.

Before graduation, each business education student must document completion of five hundred hours of business work-related experience. This experience can be acquired during summer vacations and in offices on the campus during the regular school term. Previous documented experience may also be counted.
