Dr. Todd Thompson

The M.A. Generalist gives broad exposure to the variety of work that comprises English studies and is designed for the student who has yet to decide a particular focus for his/her course of study.

As an M.A. Generalist, you will take courses from across the field of English Studies—literature, composition, teaching English as a second language, and teacher preparation—giving you the opportunity to explore the range of possibilities for focus and career preparation. But, as you find your passion, you’ll have the opportunity specialize in that area and to really prepare yourself for particular educational or career paths. This program is perfect for the student who loves English, but doesn’t quite know what it might mean to be a professional in the field.
