Pennsylvania National Guard FTA (Federal Tuition Assistance) and EAP (Education Assistance Program)

This page is intended to offer general guidance in requesting your military benefits. Specific questions related to your situation should be directed to your readiness NCO. Be advised these procedures may be modified without notice. Guard members should contact their readiness NCO for specific application requirements regarding Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) and the Education Assistance Program (EAP).

Additional questions and assistance can be obtained by calling the FTA Guard at 717-861-9238 and for EAP Questions at 717-861-8894.

You must apply for Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) thirty days prior to the first day of classes.

You can apply for FTA benefits online. Do not submit paperwork to your unit! You will need to be at unit or have a CAC card to process FTA request.

If you need assistance determining the cost of your classes here at IUP, please e-mail the Bursar’s Office at bursars-office@iup.edu. Please designate the subject of the e-mail as “FTA Request Form 2171.” Be sure to include your name, Banner ID number, and the semester you are requesting.

After submitting this information through virtualarmory.com, e-mail updates will be sent to your military AKO e-mail account. Check your account for the latest information on your request. If you have not received an e-mail regarding your request within two weeks of submission, contact your readiness NCO.

If you drop your classes or change your schedule, contact your readiness NCO.

Payments take approximately eight weeks for processing.

To check the status of your FTA funds, contact your readiness NCO.

After IUP receives your FTA, the funds will be credited to your IUP billing account. If this results in an overpayment of your billing account, a refund will be issued to you. Please make sure you have a valid mailing address in URSA or please set up direct deposit into your bank account by completing and submitting a direct deposit form. This form can be found in the Bursar’s Office.
