About New Choices

The IUP New Choices program offers career counseling, job search assistance, and funding for continued education to single parents/displaced homemakers (low income, unemployed, or underemployed individuals), and those exploring nontraditional occupations.

Services are offered through eight workshops of more than sixty hours. For clients who have completed the core program, continued service is provided in creating résumés, cover letters, and ongoing support services. Funds are also provided for career and technical tuition assistance, child care support, and transportation. The program also serves middle school/secondary school students with career counseling.

New Choices is funded by grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Indiana County Human Services Development Fund, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. New Choices works closely with Pennsylvania CareerLink in Armstrong and Indiana counties, ARIN Intermediate Unit, Indiana County Workshop (ICW), Indiana County Community Action Program (ICCAP), Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), Indiana County Guidance Center, and the Indiana County Assistance Office.

Testimonials

Life is full of changes. New Choices is your key to the future.

Without this class, I would never have gotten to the level of self-confidence I now have. I know that I can improve my skills and apply for employment that I never thought possible.

—Janice

Before this class, I totally botched an interview by not saying the right things. Now, I have learned the right responses to interview questions. I can also write an effective cover letter and have a great résumé.

—Kathie

I now have a vision of who I want to be—not just in the future, but right now. This class gave me the tools and skills to achieve my goals in both my professional and personal life.

—Christina
