The Department of Biology, housed in four floors of Weyandt Hall, is equipped to support a diversity of research in both the laboratory and the field.
Facilities are available for housing experimental animals and plants (i.e., animal rooms, controlled environmental chambers, greenhouse). A laboratory for experimentation with pathogenic organisms is available, as is modern research instrumentation, including refrigerated and ultra-centrifuges, spectrophotometers, thermocyclers, real-time PCR, ClassII/B transfer hood for plant tissue culture, photographic equipment, fluorescence microscopes, and a scanning electron microscope. The department houses a computer room, a herbarium, and museums of ornithology and mammalogy. A machine shop and electronics shop plus associated technicians are available to faculty and students for construction of research apparatus. The department uses six twelve- to fifteen-passenger vans for teaching and research.
In Environmental Health Science, we offer a department-owned computer classroom and laboratory, a fleet of vans for field trips, modern research facilities, multimedia classrooms, and a student lounge.
