Biochemistry Program

Cell Picture

All living things are, at the most basic level, self-replicating chemical systems that are sensitive to their internal and external environments.

Biochemistry, at the interface of biology and chemistry, is the science that explores how living systems work. If you enjoy discovery, have a need to help others, or want to get involved in the burgeoning biotechnology industry, Biochemistry is a major to explore. IUP iochemistry majors take the courses in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, physics, and math that will prepare them for the fast-changing technological world of modern life science. All Biochemistry majors hone their skills in the research labs of IUP faculty; most do summer internships in university, government, and industrial labs around the U.S. Our graduates gain entry into major graduate and professional schools or are hired directly into research positions. Choosing to major in Biochemistry is preparation for a lifetime of discovery.
