The David A. Schwartz Memorial Journalism Scholarship was established in 1979 for the purpose of awarding scholarship grants to worthy Journalism students at IUP in keeping with the high personal and professional standards set by David A. Schwartz, the young journalist for whom the award is named.

It was established through the generous contributions of Allen and Dorothy Schwartz, parents of David A. Schwartz, of Lebanon, Pa., the publishers of the Indiana Gazette, and many friends on campus as well as in the larger Indiana community.
