Purpose: The purpose of this program is to build more community and a sense of belonging among our freshman and sophomore students and to recognize academic achievement.
Description: For each of our core courses (COSC 105, COSC 110, COSC 210, COSC 220, COSC 300, and COSC 310) and for the two courses required of all Applied Computer Science track students (COSC 319 and COSC 341), an award will be established in the name of a supporting company (e.g., The PPG Data Base Management Award). Each time this course is taught, the student with the highest point total will be identified from all the sections of the course and will be given the award. The student will have his or her name inscribed on a plate to be put on that award plaque and will be given a cash award of $25. Notification of this will be made to all Computer Science majors, and the student’s home newspaper will be notified.
