IUP-Preservice Teachers of Mathematics (IUP-PTM) is officially recognized as a university organization through the Center for Student Life. The organization, whose purpose is to provide leadership, service, and programs for preservice elementary and secondary mathematics education students at IUP, currently has forty-four active members. Upcoming activities include service projects—one with an elementary school in San Diego and one at Indiana Junior High School—and programs, including a panel discussion by alumni from the IUP Mathematics Department who are working in the field of Mathematics Education and a session on interviewing for a job as a mathematics teacher. The group is also officially recognized as an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
