The department facilities include an audio recording lab, an animation studio, a digital television studio, a digital radio station, a graphics lab, a digital photography lab, a digital media institute, and a games and simulations center. All of these facilities will be utilized by the Ph.D. program.
The program includes production requirements that immerse students in media development.
The Digital Media Institute and the Applied Media, Simulations, and Games Center both serve real clients through grant and other funding sources. The department also operates and programs the university’s broadcast television (WIUP-TV) and radio (WIUP-FM) stations that serve the local area. Students in the Ph.D. program will have opportunities to work in these areas as Graduate Assistants and as project volunteers in relationship with their course work.
