Experience and Interests
Kirsten Murray joined the Counseling Department as a tenure-track faculty member in Fall 2007. She received her doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Counseling from Idaho State University in August 2007, emphasizing in couple, marital, and family counseling. Kirsten is a licensed professional counselor and has accumulated a majority of her counseling experience in community agency settings. She continues to engage in clinical practice on a part-time basis, working with individuals, couples, and families.
Since arriving at IUP, Kirsten has taught in both community and school counseling tracks. Her scholarly interests include supervision, social justice and diversity issues, sexuality, and wellness practices. She is currently working on a line of research exploring the impacts of counselor training on students’ couple and family relationships.
Outside of the office, she enjoys yoga, indulging in reality TV, and exploring new hiking trails with her husband, Greg, and her dog, Bailey. Since moving to Western Pennsylvania, she is quickly becoming a Steelers convert!
