Background and Experience:
Kim Desmond joined the counseling department as a tenure track faculty member in the fall of 2006. She completed her doctorate from Kent State University in August of 2005 in Counseling and Human Development Services. Her dissertation focused on the mentoring experiences of school counselors without teaching experience. She is also a graduate of IUP’s Secondary School Counseling program. Kim has experience working as an outpatient therapist in a community counseling agency as well as working with children in the school environment. She teaches in both the school and community programs. Her research interests include school counseling, diversity issues, play therapy, mentoring, narrative therapy, and solution-focused counseling.
Kim is an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and Chi Sigma Iota. She is honored and privileged to be a member of the faculty at IUP and looks forward to collaboration with students, faculty and alumni.
