Professional Experience and Interests
Dr. Hall’s interest in a career in Student Affairs began during her undergraduate years while she served as a resident assistant and student government leader. Following her graduate work at Michigan State, she served as a director of Residence Life at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota. One of the unique features of this university was that it served as a regional center for students who were physically challenged. In 1976, Dr. Hall accepted a position as area coordinator at the University of Delaware. From 1979–1982, Dr. Hall worked at Cornell University in two different positions in the Housing and Residence Life Department. Her role was to provide leadership and management for two of the four campus residential areas which housed undergraduate, graduate, and law students. In 1982, she began at IUP as director of Housing and Residence Life and served in this role until 1986 when she was promoted to assistant vice president for Student Affairs. In this role, she provided leadership for the Health Center, including Wellness and Chemical Health programs, Housing and Residence Life, Judicial Affairs, Student Activities, and Organizations, including Greek Life, Student Community Services, the African American Cultural Center, and Major Campus Events. She also held leadership responsibility for affirmative action, the Student Affairs budgets, and other divisionwide responsibilities. In 1994, Dr. Hall was appointed to provide campus leadership for developing and coordinating the universitywide one-card technology program which serves as a model program for universities across the country. Dr. Hall offered seminars for other universities, consulted with many institutions, and served as a panelist for a nationally televised live video conference on card technology.
Dr. Hall joined the SAHE faculty in 1997 as associate professor and teaches courses in the History of Higher Education, Contemporary Issues in Higher Education, Interpersonal Sensitivity, and Management and Organizational Behavior in Higher Education. Her research interests are varied and include topics such as organizational leadership, community development, and, effective management of student affairs organizations.
