The information below gives a partial listing of scholarships available to Food and Nutrition majors. Please visit the Office of Financial Aid, College of Health and Human Services Scholarship page for a more extensive listing.

Elizabeth LaValle Scholarship

The Elizabeth LaValle Scholarship will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Full-time entering freshmen students enrolled at IUP in the Food and Nutrition Department
  2. Students who have scored at least 1000 on their combined SAT scores
  3. Students who are determined to be of high ability
  4. Students who are determined to have financial need according to government standards

The dean of the College of Health and Human Services of IUP will make the selection of the students every four years, upon recommendation of the department chair, and inform the Student Planned Giving Director of the IUP Foundation.

IUP Home Economics Alumni Scholarship/Oxley-Merriman Rose Scholarship

Several $200 Home Economics Alumni Scholarships are available to current sophomores and juniors with majors in the FDNT*, HDES, and HRIM departments. Applications for these scholarships are available from the HDES Department office (207 Ackerman) and need to be returned to that department by February (check with that department for specific dates).

Scholarship criteria include: (1) scholarship, (2) financial need, and (3) IUP and community service. Scholarship recipients will be notified after spring break, and the scholarship awards will be made during the Home Economics alumni annual meeting in April.

*This scholarship is also known as the Ethyl V. Oxley Scholarship for Food and Nutrition majors.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Scholarships

Scholarship application forms may be downloaded from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Must be a student academy member to be eligible; other eligibility requirements may vary depending on the scholarship. Most awards are between $500 and $3,000. Forms are available from September to February, and final applications must be postmarked by early February for consideration.

The Pennsylvania Dietetic Association Foundation Scholarship

The Pennsylvania Dietetic Association (PADA) offers two $1,000 scholarships per year to PADA student members pursuing undergraduate degrees in food and nutrition. Application deadline is in early March. Please visit the PADA website for the applications and more information.
