Welcome to the Women in Computer Science at IUP page. This page highlights some research projects and presentations and research experience by undergraduate students at IUP under Dr Rose Shumba’s mentorship.
Computer science is a fast-growing scientific field in which women can participate on equal footing right from the start. Unfortunately, the trends nationwide already indicate that women are lagging.
Dating back to 2004, Dr. Shumba has received three ACM CREU annual grants to support undergraduate women’s research. A group of four Computer Science girls (CREU girls) have each year been working on different computer science research projects. CREU is an acronym for Collaborative Research Experience for Undergraduates in Computer Science and Engineering. CREU is funded by NSF through the ACM CRAW (Computer Research Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research) program.
