Where: Fisher Auditorium (on the Oak Grove)
This year the convocation will be held in Fisher Auditorium. Come and see this beautifully renovated facility! A celebration will follow outside in the Oak Grove.
Freshman Reader
IUP offers a common reading program for all new students. The 2008–2009 Common Freshman Reader is Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell.
Each new student receives a copy of the book selection and is invited to read it before the start of the school year. During the year, new students can attend a variety of activities related to the book (lectures, films, discussions), and a number of courses may use these activities and the book as part of class assignments. The Common Freshman Reader often becomes a topic of discussion across campus among both faculty members and students.
Check the Common Freshman Reader site for more information and a list of upcoming campus activities each semester.
Living-Learning Communities
How can you get the most out of your college education? Since you will learn both inside and outside the classroom, joining a Living-Learning Community can help you make the connection between classroom learning, your life, and the world. Members of a Living-Learning Community may share the same major or similar interests. Together they can explore these interests in depth, meet people with similar interests, or get involved in other activities.
Student Organizations
Some student organizations are campuswide, while others are affiliated with specific academic programs. In addition, students often join the IUP chapter of national organizations.
- A comprehensive list of IUP student organizations (listed both by type of organization and alphabetically) is available on the Student Affairs website.
- Many individual departments list relevant student organizations. For just one example from our college, see the Safety Sciences students’ page. Check the web page for your department.
