  2. To install the proxy server manually in Internet Explorer:
    1. Start Internet Explorer, click on Tools, then click on Internet Options.
    2. Click on the Connections tab, and then select LAN Settings.
    3. Check the Use automatic configuration script box. Enter the address http://web-proxy.iup.edu/config.pac
    4. Click OK on both the Local Area Network Settings window and Internet Options window. Your Internet Explorer browser is now configured to use the IUP Web Proxy Server.
  3. Remove file sharing. File sharing is a major reason for slow periods of Internet activity. Why you should not share files.
  4. Keep your virus protection updated. Virus protection is required to use the Residential Network. Download IUP’s free version of Sophos, or you can visit the IT Support Center in Delaney Hall to get a copy on disk.
  5. Scan for spyware. The IT Support Center can give you a copy of spyware scanners on disk. Some other free spyware scanners are Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, and Spybot.
