Internet Running Slowly?

  1. Remove file sharing. File sharing is a major reason for slow periods of Internet activity. Why you should not share files.
  2. Keep your virus protection updated. Virus protection is required to use the Residential Network. Download IUP’s free version of Sophos, or you can visit the IT Support Center in Delaney Hall to get a copy on disk.
  3. Scan for spyware. The IT Support Center can give you a copy of spyware scanners on disk. Some other free spyware scanners are Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, and Spybot.
  4. Turn off unused wireless devices. Every device that connects to the wireless slows all other nearby connections.
  5. Devices that cannot connect to the wireless, such as printers, game machines, tivos, and Blu-Ray players, can interfere with the wireless. Be sure to disable wireless on these devices.
