No on-campus housing is available for Spring 2010
The Office of International Education does not assist with housing arrangements. You are expected to make your own arrangements prior to coming to IUP. This list is not comprehensive, but is a suggested or most commonly used housing list. Please utilize the Internet and the international student associations at IUP for assistance with making housing arrangements. If you come to IUP with no housing, you will have to stay in a hotel. There is no temporary housing in Indiana, Pa.
How Do I Make Housing Arrangements?
Both on and off-campus housing is available for students coming to IUP. All first-year undergraduate students and exchange students are required to live on campus their first year. About half of IUP students live on campus and half live off campus. It is strongly suggested that for your first year at IUP you live on campus, as it will be easier to meet others and live in close proximity to everything you will need.
Off-Campus Housing
Please see these links for off-campus housing information, or e-mail intl-education@iup.edu for a list of recommended housing complexes. Many students enjoy living off campus. It should be understood that IUP makes no living arrangements other than in its own residence facilities. It is important that you take the necessary steps to secure adequate housing before arriving at IUP. Most apartment managers and landlords will require signing a contract that is legally binding and will require a security deposit, which can sometimes equal one extra months’ rent before moving in.
On-Campus Housing (Available Fall 2010 - Spring 2011)
Each student is automatically mailed an on-campus housing letter explaining how to complete an on-line housing contract. The on-campus residence halls are all newly built and furnished. There are a variety of types of rooms you can reserve. See the Office of Housing and Residence Life website for more details. The Sutton Suites is the residence hall we suggest international students reserve, because it is available during breaks and most international students will be housed here. The Office of Housing and Residence Life cannot make a room assignment without your signed agreement. For general questions about housing, please see the Office of Housing and Residence Life or e-mail IUP-OHRL@iup.edu or call 724-357-2696. To reserve on-campus housing, please:
- Read the Housing letter enclosed in your admission packet.
- Login to your IUP Computer account at URSA. Have your Student ID @___________ and password available.
- Follow instructions in the Housing letter to complete a housing contract
- Login to your IUP e-mail account to confirm your Housing reservation
- Pay the $80 housing deposit on line via URSA, or mail a check or money order to: IUP Bursar’s Office, Clark Hall Lobby, Indiana, PA 15705.
Please note: All exchange students must return their housing contracts to IUP by May 15, 2009, to guarantee housing. If your contract is submitted late, IUP cannot guarantee on-campus housing, nor will we arrange off-campus housing.
Please note that an on-line on-campus housing contract is a binding, legal agreement. If you sign a contract for Fall, you are required to stay in the residence hall for Fall and Spring. If you sign a contract for Spring, your contract ends at the end of the Spring semester. Contracts are renewed every year, and they must be applied for separately for Summer sessions. Students are only permitted to live on campus while taking classes during summer sessions.
All lodging accommodations require advance reservations. Shared apartment and residence hall accommodations are available to graduate students without spouses or families. There is no on-campus housing for married couples or students with children.
Break Housing: Students living in IUP residence halls may stay in Sutton Suites for free during holiday breaks (applications must be completed as well as other conditions being met). Summer housing can only be applied for if students are taking classes during that term. Otherwise, they have to move out during the summer break.
Is There a Meal Plan?
Students living in IUP residence halls are required to purchase one of five meal plans. Students living off campus who want a meal plan have the option to purchase one of six meal plans. It is not required for off-campus students to purchase a meal plan. A meal plan can be chosen through the student IUP computer account as well.
Please be advised that there is always an adjustment period to the food and beverages in a new country or culture. The campus dining personnel will work with students who have special dietary requirements. No exceptions to or alterations of the meal plan contract will be allowed.
Meal plans will begin for all IUP students, domestic as well as international, with lunch/dinner on the weekend before classes. You should be prepared to pay for meals off campus prior to that date. Please refer all dining questions to IUP-dining@iup.edu.
