Art

Orval and Marion Kipp Memorial Scholarship for Art

This award, created in memory of two members of the IUP faculty, is presented to talented incoming freshman students enrolling in the Department of Art.

Joanne P. Lovette Memorial Fund

Awarded to an incoming freshman who demonstrates outstanding artistic talent, via portfolio review, in the opinion of the Art Department Scholarship committee. Retention of this scholarship is based on maintaining an overall 2.8 grade-point average and a 3.0 GPA in studio/art courses.

Jean J. Slenker Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of a 1953 graduate of IUP who was a member of the Department of Art faculty for 31 years, this scholarship is awarded to promising students in the media of fabrics, including papermaking and its related art forms. Consideration is also given to majors in Art Education.

Music

Armstrong Concert Band Scholarship for Trombone

The Armstrong Concert Band Scholarship for Trombone was established to honor the dedication and talent of the membership of the Armstrong Concert Band and in tribute to John Schad and his passion for music. An eligible candidate must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student with a declared trombone major in the Department of Music within the College of Fine Arts; must have successfully earned a minimum of 50 credits at IUP; must have an overall grade-point average of 3.5 or higher; must demonstrate exemplary performing technique on the trombone; and must show a continued interest and involvement in music department ensembles, performances, and guest artist activities. Recipients may be considered for additional scholarship support during subsequent years if the student(s) continues to meet the award criteria.

Gary and Kaye Bird Euphonium Scholarship

Dr. Gary Bird, retired IUP professor of Music, established this scholarship in support of the Tuba/Euphonium Studio. A student selected to receive the scholarship must be a Music Education major with a Euphonium emphasis. The award is available for the Spring semester with selection of the recipient made by the professor of Tuba/Euphonium in consultation and cooperation with the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Wallis and Janet Braman Music Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman music major whose performing area is one of the following: violin, viola, cello, or double bass.

For the Love of the Arts

This scholarship provides limited support to an incoming freshman as identified and recommended by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Freshman Music Scholarship

Student must be an incoming freshman music major. Awards are based on performance ability and equally shared among all applied studios (instruments and voice).

Joan Frey Boytim Scholarship for Keyboard Accompanist

Joan Frey Boytim completed a Bachelor of Science in Music in 1955 and a Master of Education in Music in 1964 at IUP. With more than forty-five years of teaching experience, she is a nationally recognized expert in the field of teaching pre-collegiate and adult community voice. A gracious gift from Mrs. Boytim provides for the award of a scholarship to a senior-level student that has demonstrated interest, success, and the promise of continued success as a keyboard accompanist for recitalists, small ensembles, or choral organizations. Selection of the scholarship award is done by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Joan Frey Boytim Scholarship for Vocal Performance

Joan Frey Boytim completed a Bachelor of Science in Music in 1955 and a Master of Education in Music in 1964 at IUP. With more than forty-five years of teaching experience, she is a nationally recognized expert in the field of teaching pre-collegiate and adult community voice. A gracious gift from Mrs. Boytim provides for the award of two scholarships, one to a senior-level female student and a second to a senior-level male student that have demonstrated interest, success, and the promise of continued success in vocal performance. Selection of the scholarship award is done by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

George A. Chressanthis Scholarship for Piano Performance

Established by a 1997 graduate of IUP, this scholarship provides support to outstanding and talented students enrolled in the Music Department with piano as his/her principal applied area of study regardless of the degree sought. Selection of the scholarship recipient is made by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Margaret McCluskie Clark Scholarship for Violin

Frank M. Clark established this scholarship in honor and tribute to his wife, Margaret McCluskie Clark. Mrs. Clark graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education from Indiana State Teachers College in 1951. The scholarship is awarded to a student with a declared major in the Music Department with violin as his/her primary performing medium. Selection of the recipient is made by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Charles A. and Clarabell Tweed Davis Memorial Music Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to one or more rising sophomores enrolled in the Music Department. Award will continue for two years providing that the recipient earns an overall grade-point average of 2.8 and a music studies GPA of at least 3.0. The recipient must exhibit outstanding musical skills in a particular musical discipline and contribute to the musical discipline and the university through ensembles, recitals, etc.

Frank and Mary Gorell Scholarship for Music

Established by longtime Indiana residents and patrons of the arts, this scholarship benefits outstanding and talented students enrolled in the Department of Music with a concentration in the string program.

Florence E. Haug Marching Band Scholarship

Florence E. Haug served as secretary/administrative assistant to six presidents at IUP over a period spanning twenty-five years. Ms. Haug enjoys all areas of the College of Fine Arts, in particular the IUP Marching Band. Her generous support provides a scholarship to a full-time student from the college with a major in music participating as a member of the marching band.

Ann M. Hayward Music Scholarship

Awarded to entering freshman vocal majors by recommendation of faculty.

Matthew Robert Hornick Memorial Scholarship for Music Education

Mr. Hornick was a 2002 graduate of IUP with a degree in Music Education. The scholarship, established in his memory by his parents, Chris (’68) and Mary Louise Hornick, provides support for an incoming freshman in the clarinet studio. Selection of the recipient is made by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

H. Eugene Hulbert Music Scholarship

Awarded to a student majoring in Music Education, Music Performance, or Liberal Arts on the basis of academic excellence, music excellence, and financial need. Completion of four semesters in the Music Department with a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester is required.

Gloria Bryan Johnson Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time music student, to an incoming freshman, or to an upperclassman cello or bass major by recommendation of faculty.

Mrs. William (Rachel) P. Moorhead Organ Scholarship

This scholarship for students studying organ was established in memory of Mrs. William P. Moorhead. Recipients are selected by the organ studio faculty in consultation with the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Mary H. Muldowney Music Scholarship

Friends of Mary Muldowney, a long-time faculty member and choral director at IUP, funded this scholarship for a senior Voice major.

Dr. Russel C. Nelson Scholarship

Awarded to a student majoring in Music Education at the senior, junior, or sophomore level as selected by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Gary J. Olmstead Percussion Scholarship

Established to honor the talents and career of a distinguished faculty member and musician, this scholarship is awarded to outstanding students in the Department of Music who are studying percussion.

James and Jamie Self Tuba Scholarship

Jim Self (’65), a prominent studio tuba player in Los Angeles, has generously created a scholarship for a tuba player to be awarded by the tuba instructor in consultation with the brass faculty and Music Department Scholarship Committee. The award is based on the student’s talent and “citizenship” in the department. Financial need is not a consideration.

Kenneth M. Sell Memorial Scholarship for Music

The Kenneth M. Sell Memorial Scholarship for Music provides annual support for a talented and deserving student enrolled within the Music Department who demonstrates the highest level of excellence and exceptional talent during the audition process. Selection of the recipients is made by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Dorothy Smith Poret Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship was established in memory of Mrs. Poret in support of a student who is a member of the IUP Chamber Singers and serves as a section leader in the Calvary Presbyterian Chancel Choir. Selection of the recipient is made by the director of the IUP Chamber Singers.

Evelyn Swauger Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate piano majors in the Department of Music.

Carol Teti Memorial Scholarship

Preference given to undergraduate organ majors within the Department of Music; secondary preference may be given to graduate students or students enrolled in other majors. A GPA of 3.25 is required. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in applied organ courses during the semesters to which the scholarship will be applied and be selected by audition performance as determined by the Organ Scholarship Selection Committee.

Annie-Laurie Wheat Scholarship for Musical Theater

This scholarship, founded by former theater Professor Annie-Laurie Wheat, provides financial assistance to talented and deserving students who are enrolled as continuing students at IUP and who have demonstrated excellence in musical theater/opera performance and/or production. Selection of the recipient is made by the Director of Musical Theater/Opera.

Theater-by-the-Grove Freshman Talent Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman Theater major based on audition/interview for students who demonstrate promising talent or design/technical areas.
