Student Testimonials

Hear what IUP Communications Media students have to say about our program.

Heather TabacchiThe IUP Communications Media courses have helped me prepare for my chosen field study of photography by offering me many different opportunities to build my resume. I am also enrolled in a production course titled Media Field Studies which allows me and my classmates to work hands on and directly with our clients, and, together, we develop projects that will better their businesses, charities, nonprofit organizations, etc. I have increased my skills as a photographer through the courses I have taken due to the unique assignments that pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Ryan BrownThe skills I have gained during my time here at IUP are vast and invaluable. I have been extensively trained in industry standard software in the Adobe Creative Suite while learning about product design and branding. Companies and clients come to IUP for help with solving problems of logo design, brand identity, and Web development. Students are going through hands-on training about the process of interaction with these clients and the process of design and production. And, when the process is over, you have a solid production to add to your portfolio.

Quinn DenioThe Communications Media courses at IUP have really prepared me for a career in promotions. As a result of some of the classes I have taken, I've learned how to become a successful project manager, how to confidently speak in public, how to write scripts in any format, how to design promotional materials, and how to successfully promote radio and television. The faculty have greatly influenced my success by always being enthusiastic about what they are teaching and always being willing to advise and help me in any way they can. By being involved at IUP's radio station, WIUP-FM, as the promotions director, I have learned a great deal about the field of promotions and how to successfully lead a team. I have also learned to stay organized and focused, and that, if you work hard, your goals can be reached!

William TomsDuring the summer of 2012, I had the privilege of completing an internship with a production company, owned by Universal, working with NBC10 in Philadelphia. I attribute much of my success during this internship to the preparation I received while working with IUP-TV. The television studio here at IUP allowed me to gain experience using state-of-the-art equipment as well as acclimate me to the team-based production environment. I feel that these experiences along with the responsibility entrusted to me by the station faculty have been a cornerstone in my development as a professional in the field.

Kelsey PetersHere at IUP, I was part of the TV station with Indie Rocker’s Ball, part of WIUP-FM as management and as a DJ, as well as IUP Sport's fantastic film crew. All three student organizations gave me real-world experience working with teams. IUP Sports Crew opened up lots of doors for me. I got the opportunity to work with CBS Sports and gained valuable knowledge and connections that will follow me after graduation.

James McHenryDuring my time here in the Communications Media Department, especially recently, I have been able to help with some real-world projects. Most of these projects involve video editing and filming. I made a five-minute promotional video for the B.E. Taylor Christmas Concert this winter (2012). I also filmed and edited the Salute to Our Troops event that was held on October 20, 2012, in the KCAC, and the Native American Festival that was held in the Delaware Room in the HUB on November 11, 2012. Starting in December, I will be helping film and edit concert footage of student recitals on campus. I was also involved with the Police Exercise/Training over the summer (2012).
