The radio station at IUP, WIUP-FM, is a 1600-watt, noncommercial, student-operated facility. Students from a variety of majors volunteer as DJs and news and sports staff. There are also many opportunities for students to host a variety of different types of music shows.

The management staff is composed of student volunteers who supervise and train other, less experienced students. The radio station has an extensive music library that supports programming in classic and alternative rock, jazz, and classical music. While the station is student run, a faculty advisor works with the student management and programming staff on programming and personnel decisions.

The radio station is recognized as an important part of the Communications Media Department. It offers a great deal of opportunity for students to develop professional broadcasting skills. The station is also a recognized campus activity, and more than one hundred students from numerous majors are currently involved on a daily basis.

Thanks to an infusion of grant money, WIUP-FM was able to do a complete facilities and equipment upgrade between the summer and fall of 2002. This resulted in an expansion of the broadcast booth, and the acquisition and installation of a full array of state-of-the-art-digital broadcasting equipment.
