The audio recording studio has four track analog capability and eight track digital capability. Students are able to digitally master audio tracks to 48 kilohertz (KHz) quality. The analog audio component is centered around a 24-port console capable of eight stereo outputs. Peripheral equipment includes CD, mike, and cassette inputs, plus various modern signal processing equipment for postproduction activities.
The digital component is centered around the DM-80 Technology, an industry standard disc based digital mastering and editing system. It offers sampling frequencies of 32 KHz, 44.1 KHz, and 48 KHz. Two track R-DAT industrial standard recorders offer both input and output capability for mastering digital tape.
Audio production is an important part of the curriculum in the Communications Media Department. The audio courses are popular, and we offer four to five sections per year. Students use these courses to launch careers in the audio recording industry. Also, audio plays an important role in multimedia development and increasingly as a component of internet production.
