University Financial Support for Research and Scholarly Activity

Whereas scholarship and disciplinary research complement and reinforce the instructional process, it is agreed that the University will contribute each year to a Senate fund established for this purpose.  The fund shall be administered by the University Senate Research Committee which shall enforce the minimum principles listed below.

  1. The funds are to be awarded on a competitive basis.
  2. A research committee shall be established in each college for the purpose of reviewing each proposal within its college and forwarding recommendations to the University Senate Research Committee.
  3. The University Senate Research Committee shall establish a priority schedule for the proposals that have been approved by the College Research Committee (CRC) without altering the rankings determined by those committees.
  4. All members of the University faculty and administration are eligible to apply for grants.
  5. The University Senate Research Committee may support expenses to present at  research and scholarly meetings.
  6. The Senate Research Committee may provide for the preparation of manuscripts for publication and related costs.  It will not provide support for the preparation of a thesis or dissertation to fulfill requirements for a graduate degree.
  7. The purchase of equipment shall be permitted if it is clearly demonstrated that it is critical to a quality research project.
  8. The grantee shall submit a final report at the conclusion of the project to the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research or designee.
  9. Grant monies may be spent only in the specified fiscal year.  Exceptions may be granted by the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research or designee.
