Biography

Raquel Winnica Young earned her degree in Vocal Performance from the Colon Opera House in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her Artist Diploma in Voice from Duquesne University. A winner of the 2010 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions, she attended the prestigious Vancouver Early Music Festival in 2013 and the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in 2012. Raquel’s singing career has taken her locally (Quantum Theatre’s productions of Ainadamar and Maria de Buenos Aires, Chatham Baroque, Altoona and Johnstown symphonies, Pittsburgh Baroque Ensemble, Pittsburgh Camerata, nationally (Apollo’s Fire in Cleveland, Helios Early Opera in Boston, Strings Festival in Colorado, and across South America and Europe. 

In addition to giving master classes and clinics, Raquel has been teaching private students for over 15 years. She currently maintains a private studio and a studio at Johnstonbaugh’s Music Center. After she finished her Artist Diploma at Duquesne University, where she worked for Elisabeth Moll for a semester giving voice lessons to music education majors, she worked for Guenko Guechev as the opera workshop assistant, coaching students for the operas.
