Purpose

Troop 11 was chartered by Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 1972 to promote the goals and ideals of the Boy Scouts of America for the youth of the Indiana area and the students of IUP. Association with IUP is not required for membership.

Charter Partner

Troop 11 is currently chartered by the Boy Scouts of America through the Foundation for IUP. Troop 11 is recognized by IUP as a member of the university’s family of student organizations.

Through Troop 11, IUP student scouts have the opportunity for growth and leadership as assistant scoutmasters within the troop. These student scouts have the opportunity to teach both scouting skills and life skills to our younger members. Additionally, these student scouts serve as exceptional role models to our young members.

Rechartering

Troop 11 recharters with the BSA in January of each year. When a scout or scouter first registers with the troop, the cost is the responsibility of the scout or scouter. After the first year, all costs of rechartering, including registration, Boys Life subscription, and insurance, are paid by the troop from dues and fundraisers.

Use of Troop Equipment

Scouts or scouters may request the use of troop equipment (i.e., tents, stoves, popcorn machine, etc.) for personal use or for the use of a nonprofit organization with which they are affiliated, in an event in which the requesting scout or scouter will be participating.

All requests will be in writing to and approved by the Troop Committee. Requesting scouts or scouters will be ultimately responsible for the return of the equipment in suitable condition. In the event of loss or damage of the equipment, the scout or scouter or the organization shall replace in kind or pay for replacement of the equipment.
