Student Organization for Caribbean Awareness (SOCA)

The mission of the Student Organization for Caribbean Awareness (SOCA) is to support the population of Caribbean students on the IUP campus. SOCA is designed to embrace all Caribbean cultures and nationalities through education and hosting events for the IUP community and surrounding areas to promote acceptance and understanding.  The goal is to bring a piece of our home to this school and to let everyone enjoy the experience with us through concerts, events, pageants, and much more.  We want to provide both Caribbean and non-Caribbean students with an active voice on campus in matters concerning Caribbean students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  We also pride ourselves in keeping the student body up to date on issues that are taking place in the Caribbean and its effects here in the United States.  The organization provides social, cultural, and educational activities for IUP and the Western PA communities.  The organization is open to people born in the Caribbean, people of Caribbean ancestry, and people who are interested in Caribbean culture and affairs.

Membership in this organization is open to all members of the IUP community.  For more information about this organization, contact the president and/or advisor listed below:
