The Ken and Lois Widdowson Scholarship is awarded to deserving Mathematics majors from Indiana Area High School.

The Ken and Lois Widdowson Scholarship was established by Ken Widdowson in memory of his wife, Lois, who passed away in 2004. Lois was a graduate of Indiana High School and a 1943 graduate of Indiana Normal School (as IUP was then known), where she majored in mathematics. Lois was a homemaker and a teacher, having taught at Friedens High School in Somerset County.

Eligible candidates must meet the following criteria for scholarship consideration:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania;
  • Must be a graduate of Indiana Area High School;
  • If, in any given year, there are no eligible candidates who meet this initial criteria, scholarship consideration may be given to students who have graduated from any high school within Indiana County;
  • Must be a Mathematics major;
  • Must be in good academic standing with the university;
  • Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need.

In order to apply, the candidate must complete an application form that includes information on extracurricular activities and the reason for choosing a career in mathematics.  The application form may be obtained through the Mathematics Department.
