Sigma Xi Lecture: Water Quality in Indiana County and the Region

Tuesday, November 19, 2013 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Weyandt 32

Dr. Nate McElroy from the Chemistry Department will present "Water Quality in Indiana County and the Region."  Indiana County and the rest of western Pennsylvania has provided, and continues to provide, a rich source of traditional fossil fuels for energy generation. In recent years, there has been much concern about the potential negative impacts of gas extraction from the Marcellus shale formation, particularly on water quality. This presentation will include a discussion on our region's water quality, descriptions of local monitoring programs, and suggestions for future steps to address concerns on both sides of the issue.
