Indiana University of Pennsylvania has implemented a wireless network standard and is now deploying wireless network service in various locations. Wireless Networking gives IUP laptop users and hand-held (PDA) users advanced mobility, ease of collaboration, and the ability to access the university's network and the Internet in areas where traditional wired network installations may be impractical.
The College of Education and Educational Technology has purchased and installed wireless access points in strategic locations in both Davis Hall and Stouffer Hall (select the name of the hall to see a drawing that shows the approximate coverage in the building). Other locations at IUP that currently have wireless access can be found at Data Communication Services.
To use the IUP wireless network, you will need the following:
or
In either case, the wireless card or built-in wireless connectivity must support WiFi, IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g, 2.4GHz. Cards must also support WEP data encryption, 128 bit RC4 algorithm. Your laptop or hand-held must also be able to support VPN (Virtual Private Network).
You will need to configure your laptop or hand-held (PDA) so that it will access the wireless network and also connect to IUP's Virtual Private Network (VPN) Server in order to access the IUP Network. For help with the configuration, please contact:
