Act 48 Instructions

IUP/PDE ACT 48 Credit Classes

Act 48 requires all Pennsylvania educators holding Pennsylvania public school certification to participate in ongoing professional education. In compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Act 48, the IUP Registrar's Office will report college credits earned by Pennsylvania certified professional educators to the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the School District employing the professional educator.

Upon the successful completion of your credit bearing course, you must complete the Act 48 Certification Request for IUP to report that information to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Submit your request electronically via the Internet through the following procedure:

  1. Access the URSA website.
  2. Select “Login to Secure Area.”
  3. When prompted for your USER ID, enter the number that appears above the picture on your I-Card. Be sure to begin the number with the @ symbol.
  4. Enter your PIN number, and then select “Login”. (If this is the first time you have ever logged into the system, your PIN number is a random number available from the Registrar’s Scheduling Office.)
  5. Select “Student Services.”
  6. Select “Academic Records.”
  7. Select “Act 48 Course Request.”
  8. Complete the address information as requested. Press the “Continue” button.
  9. Select the courses you wish to submit to PDE. Then press the “Submit” button.
  10. Select “Exit” to leave the system, then exit your browser.

Note: Certification requests for noncredit courses should be directed to IUP’s Office of Distance Learning and Continuing Education. Complete information about Act 48 can be found at the website for the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
