Breadcrumbs, which appear near the top of a web page, provide a trail that the user can follow back to a website’s entry point. Breadcrumbs provide links back to each page the user navigated to get to the current page.
In Ektron’s CMS, breadcrumbs are set at the folder level, so you need to set them only for the main content block in the folder, and breadcrumbs will automatically be set for the rest of that folder’s content.
For most content authors, breadcrumbs will already be set for you. However, any time you create a new folder, you will need to set the breadcrumbs.
Follow this process to set breadcrumbs:
- In the CMS Workarea, navigate to the folder you will be setting breadcrumbs for.
- On the right side of the Workarea, mouse over View and scroll down to Folder Properties.
- Click on the Edit icon and go to the Breadcrumb tab.
- Uncheck the box next to “Inherit from parent folder.” The “Add New Item” block will appear.
- At the URL Link field, click on the binoculars icon to the right of the blank field. The “Library Folder” screen appears. The field beneath the “Library Folder” title will read “Quicklinks.”
- On the left side of the “Library Folder” screen, navigate to the folder you need to create the breadcrumb for.
- On the right side of the screen, double-click the main content block within that folder. The “Library Folder” screen will disappear, and on the “Add New Item” block of the previous screen, the URL Link field will now be filled in.
- Click on the Add button.
- Then click on the Save icon at the top of the screen.
