Commencement Speaker: Teele '82, Top Software Executive in Pittsburgh

Suzy Kuhn Teele '82 to be Commencement speaker, May 18, 2013Suzy Kuhn Teele '82, a highly respected software company executive who has spent more than 20 years as an integral part of the Pittsburgh technology community, was the speaker at both Commencement ceremonies on May 18.

Teele, who majored in Management Information Systems and minored in Accounting at IUP, is currently chief operating officer for SnapRetail, a fast-growing, Pittsburgh-based technology firm that provides sales and marketing software to small retailers.

SnapRetail has hired several IUP graduates and provided internship opportunities to many students.

Teele previously served as president and chief operating officer of Matrix Solutions, an analytics software company that reached its highest profitability growth under her leadership.

Prior to this, Teele founded Aceda, a management consulting firm that provided companies across the United States with interim executives and consulting services for sales, marketing, and business development. She worked with close to 100 organizations to help them develop and launch new products and/or services, revive existing products, and develop accelerated strategies to profitably grow revenue.

Earlier Teele was senior vice president of Marketing at ServiceWare Inc. (now Consona), where she helped grow revenue from $2 million to $15 million in less than four years through the introduction of several new products and the implementation of over 15 industry partnerships.

In eight years at Legent Corporation (now CA), Suzy held a variety of executive roles, including vice president of Human Resources and general manager of a $220 million software division consisting of 35 products and 250 employees in eight locations worldwide. She also held senior roles in marketing, product management, mergers and acquisitions, and business development.

Teele teaches in entrepreneurship programs at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. She serves on the boards of Touchtown, Inc., and PowerLink.

She earned an IUP Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004 and was inducted into the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology Hall of Distinction in 2012. She served as a member of the IUP Alumni Association Board of Directors for eight years and was president from 2008 to 2010.

Teele and her husband, Ted Teele, and their six children reside in Pittsburgh. Her son, Michael Nicastro, earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications Media at the May 18 commencement ceremony.
