Add an Event to a Calendar

Most changes to your website, you will want to make from the Workarea. Working with calendar events is one thing you will want to do from the browser instead.

Add an Event to Your Calendar

  1. Go to your unit website. On the menu (navigation on the right side), go to Events.
  2. In order to add or edit events, make sure the following are true:
    1. You are not in preview mode
    2. You are in the block calendar view (Calendar rather than List view, given the option on the left of your screen)
  3. Looking at the block calendar, go to the day you want to add the event and click on the Add New Event icon. This is the icon on the left, with a yellow plus.

  4. The Add Calendar Event screen will appear. Fill out the Event Title and Event Location fields and complete the one-time or recurring event information as necessary. You will need to add a start time and end time for the event. You can uncheck the Display times for event box if you do not want the times to appear. 
  5. If desired, link from your calendar entry to a news item related to the event or another content item by clicking on the Add Library icon on the top toolbar, Add Library Icon. The title will change to the title of the linked content item, but you can adjust it as necessary. Do not link to an outside site in the hyperlink field—it won't work. Do not adjust the hyperlink field aside from using the Add Library icon. 
  6. Add an event type and description in the indicated fields. Under event type, selecting Central Calendar will automatically place the event on the Central Calendar.
  7. When you are finished entering information, click the disk icon, Save icon, to save the event. Events do not go through workflow, so please double check your work. 

To Edit or Delete an Event

  1. Follow the first two steps above, under Add an Event to Your Calendar.
  2. Looking at the block calendar, go to the day of the event you want to remove or edit. Click on the View Event icon. This is the icon on the right, with a magnifying glass.
  3. When the Workarea opens, click on the name of the event. The Add Calendar Event screen will appear.
  4. To delete the event, click the Delete (garbage can) icon. This will delete the event. Events do not go through workflow.
  5. To edit the event, make adjustments on the Add Calendar Event screen as necessary.
  6. When you are finished entering information, click the disk icon, Save icon, to save the event. Events do not go through workflow, so please double check your work.
