Morning Session

Creative Writing: The Basics

The morning session will focus on writing techniques essential to all forms of imaginative writing. We’ll spark your imagination and engage your creativity with individual and group writing exercises. Bring a notebook and pen!

Afternoon Sessions

(Students will choose one option)

Introduction to Poetry

Express yourself in the fewest, most powerful words. This workshop will develop your skills in creating effective images and choosing the best words in the best order.

Introduction to Fiction

Aspire to write the next best-selling paranormal adventure series? Start with learning the basics of scene, character, and plot development. This workshop will teach the foundations of effective fiction writing.

Criteria for Applying to the Workshop:

  • Open to high school students who will be in grades 9–12 in the 2013 Fall semester
  • Each student applying must have a 3.0 overall GPA
  • Applications (including a two-page writing sample and high school transcript) must be received by June 15, 2013

How to Apply

20 students will be selected for the program based on their writing sample.

Each student selected will receive notification and directions on how to pay the registration fee. Failure to pay the fee within 10 days will result in that student forfeiting their spot in the program. An alternate will be selected.
