Admission Requirements

The Culinary Dietetics Track allows students to combine academic preparation in nutrition with extensive hands-on learning experiences in culinary arts by one of two routes:

  • Students who SAT scores meet admission requirements for the Dietetics track may enter the department as freshman through the Culinary Dietetics track. They transfer to the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts, located in Punxsutawney, for their sophomore year, and return to the department for their junior and senior years. The required culinary externship is completed during the summer between their junior and senior years. Students apply to the Academy of Culinary ARts at the beginning of the second semester of the freshman year; a personal visit to the Academy is required. Note that the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts operates under a different pricing structure, which may be viewed on the Academy's website.
  • Students whose SAT scores are below admission standards for the Dietetics track or who have earned a culinary certificate at any accredited culinary arts program may enter the department through the Nutrition track and change their major to Culinary Dietetics after they have completed the following requirements:
    • Grade of C or higher in CHEM 101 or 111 and FDNT 110
    • GPA of 3.0

The Culinary Dietetics track applies the same admission and progression policies as the Dietetics track and follows the same Food and Nutrition Department Undergraduate Handbook.
