There are two internship positions for Summer 2013 at Carlisle Construction Materials in Carlisle, PA.
CHEMIST INTERN- THERMOPLASTICS
Job Summary:
- Carlisle Construction Materials Incorporated, a worldwide leading diversified manufacturer of premium building productsand related technology has an opening for a Thermoplastics Intern, for the 2013 summer. This position will assist Carlisle’s R&D Department on several projects in the thermoplastics process engineering area.
- The pay rate for this position will be $10.00- $12.00 per hour based on previous experience.
- Job Responsibilities:
- Refine and expand existing twin screw element log for Tooele, UT and Senatobia, MS. Propose inventory concept for plants.
- Attend design review meetings for sheetline and dry blend tower installation. Support R&D lab trials and collect raw material samples to prepare for PVC production start-up and troubleshooting. Attend extrusion and dry-blending process development trials at vendor labs.
- Work with Heritage Plastics R&D department to screen potential BSW formulas. Identify formula that will improve puncture resistance, reduce CLTE and reduce cost compared with current compound. Responsibilities may include physical testing and analytical testing in the lab and a plant trial in Greenville.
- Work with Senatobia, MS plant personnel and Mahlo electrical engineering to improve the HMI screens on the Mahlo gauging system. Upgrades will be transferred from TPO to PVC gauge system.
Job Requirements:
- Applicants must be a Junior, or Senior status enrolled in an accredited four year institution. A concentration inmaterials science with a focus on thermoplastics (polyolefins, PVC, etc.) or thermoplastic process equipment (mixing, extrusion, dies, etc.) is preferred. Candidates must have some experience with physical testing of materials, electron microscopy with x-ray and chemistry / polymer / plastics understanding. In addition, candidates should also have strong written and oral communication skills. A minimum 3.0 GPA required.
CHEMIST INTERN- ADHESIVES/EPDM
Job Summary:
- Carlisle Construction Materials Incorporated, a worldwide leading diversified manufacturer of premium building productsand related technology has an opening for a Chemist Intern, for the 2013 summer. This position will assist Carlisle’s R&D Department with several projects in the adhesives and tape product areas as well as the EPDM membrane product area.
- The pay rate for this position will be $10.00-$12.00 per hour based on previous experience.
- Job Responsibilities:
- Preparing primer, building test samples and subsequently testing such samples and reporting on the data
- Creating lab batches of tape, building long term adhesion samples, aging and testing of the samples and reporting of the data. This project also may require the intern to travel to the Greenville Illinois plant for small scale trials.
Job Requirements:
- Applicants must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status enrolled in an accredited four year institution. A concentration in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field is required. Candidates should also have strong written and oral communication skills. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
