What is it?
SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) is a society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists. SACNAS encourages its members to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in science by connecting them with a variety of opportunities and programs in the science field.

Upcoming Opportunities through SACNAS
Green Chemistry Research Program at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs
This summer research program focuses on ecologically-friendly chemistry. It provides a range of opportunities for participants including professional development activities, an ethics workshop, and even a seminar on eco-friendly fireworks—demonstration included. During any free time participants may have, UCCS encourages students to explore their surroundings—the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Other benefits include a $400 round-trip travel allowance, free housing, and a $4,500 stipend.

Surf Summer Undergraduate Research Focus
This 10-week program hosted by Texas A&M University provides undergraduate students with research experience in global warming and climate change on the Gulf of Mexico coast at Corpus Christi, Texas. The program aims to encourage critical thinking, provides field experiences, and offers a $3,500 stipend.

Proctor & Gamble Science Seminar 2013
Proctor & Gamble is hosting a science seminar focusing on product research and development this summer for undergraduate students studying science. During this all-expenses paid three- to four-day seminar, participants will gain hands-on experience, tour headquarters, and participate in presentations at the P&G technical facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sacnas National Conference
Join over 3,500 attendees in San Antonio, Texas, for four days of scientific research presentations, professional development, networking, exhibits, culture, and community. One of the largest annual gatherings of minority scientists in the country, the interdisciplinary, inclusive, and interactive SACNAS National Conference motivates and inspires. The 2013 conference will focus on “Strengthening the Nation through Diversity, Innovation, and Leadership in STEM” (sacnas.org).
