Arrival Procedures for Punxsutawney Campus Orientations

IUP Punxsutawney Orientation: June 6-7, 2016

If Riding the Bus from Philadelphia (must be pre-registered):

Housing: All students will be staying in the residence hall at the Punxsutawney campus. Note: Parents and students cannot be assigned a shared room for the program. Students are housed separately. (Remember to bring linens, pillows, towels and toiletries.)

Arrival: You have indicated you will be riding the bus from the Philadelphia area. 

Bus Departure: Contact Shawn in admissions to verify your pre-arranged plans.

Bus arrival: The bus should arrive at Punxsutawney campus approximately 6:00 p.m. 

Program Check in: You will check in to the program upon arrival.

Program Times: You will receive a detailed program at check in. 

Evening of arrival: Approximately 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Day one program:  8:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Day two program:  8:00 a.m. – noon.

Note: The student program runs concurrently.

Meals: The program includes dinner on Sunday, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided on day one and breakfast and lunch are provided for day two.

Internet access: There will be on-site internet access. Instructions will be available on site.

What to bring: You are to bring linens, pillows, towels and shower items

Dress is casual for both days.  Be sure to prepare for the weather with jackets and an umbrella!

If Not Riding the Bus:

Housing:  All students will be staying in IUP Residence halls and should follow check in procedures in their separate confirmation letter. Parents can either stay in area hotels, or sign up for on campus housing.  Links to area hotels can be found on the Punxsutawney website.

Arrival: Your arrival time depends on your own travel plans and accommodations. 

If you have arranged early housing on campus the night before, check in at the main building of the Punxsutawney campus between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (Remember to bring linens, pillows, towels and toiletries.)

If you are arriving day one with on campus housing, check in at the main building of the Punxsutawney campus between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Note:  Parents and students cannot be assigned a shared room for the program.  Students are housed separately. (Remember to bring linens, pillows, towels and toiletries.)

If you are staying off campus for the entire orientation, plan to arrive at the Punxsutawney campus in the morning in time for your program check in listed below. 

Program Check in: 
Parent Program check in for day one is 9:00 a.m.

Program:  You will receive a detailed program at check in. 

Day one program:  8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Day two program:  8:00 a.m. – noon

Note that the student program runs concurrently.

Meals: breakfast and lunch on both days, dinner on day one

Parking: Free parking is available on site adjacent to the main building.

Internet access: There will be on-site internet access.  Instructions will be available on site.

Testing

You will be required to follow your placement results when scheduling for classes, both now and in the future. Therefore, it is imperative that you take the testing seriously and prepare for the exams by reviewing the sample tests on our website. All students take the English, math, and reading exams. There are no sample exams for the education readiness exams.

Students’ orientation fee will be added to their 2016 fall semester bill.

Review, print, and/or bring with you the following information:

  • Essay information
  • A calculator labeled with your name if you wish to use it for the math exams. Only approved calculators are allowed. (There are both regular and scientific calculators available on the exam itself. If there is any question about the calculator you bring, it will be disallowed.)
  • Note that you should not rely on prior experience for the MATH exam. Be sure to review the sample questions.

Remember that enrollment in the program constitutes your being on campus and fully participating in the program throughout its duration.
