Dr. Timothy Mitchell, a professor of history at Columbia University, will show the links among democracy, coal, and oil in the past, present, and future. He will also discuss how dependence on oil shapes political life, both in North African and Middle Eastern countries that rely on oil revenues and in Western countries that have the highest oil consumption. His lecture is based on his book Carbon Democracy, to be available at the Coop Store and the IUP Libraries.
Co-sponsored by IUP Pan-African Studies.
