Journal of Communications Media Studies

Aim and Scope

The Journal of Communications Media Studies is an annual, peer-reviewed publication publishing original research in communication studies, media studies, and related fields. Scholars are invited to submit manuscripts addressing any area of communication and media studies, including, but not limited to: mass communication, international communication, educational technology, rhetorical approaches to media, critical cultural studies, computer mediated communication, political media, health communication, and organizational/corporate communication.  

All articles will undergo blind peer review by at least two anonymous referees. Submissions are evaluated according to the following criteria: quality of theoretical application, methodology/design, data, clarity of writing, strength of analysis, originality, and overall contribution/relevance to the field.

Submission Guidelines

General Guidelines

  • All submissions must be original work by the author and may not have been previously published
  • All submissions will undergo blind review.
  • Manuscripts should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Sixth Edition).

Manuscript Format

  • Manuscripts should be submitted in English, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font, and should be no longer than ~6,500 words.
  • The preferred format for submitted articles is a Microsoft Word file. (If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, contact the editor for other options.)
  • Articles must be submitted with separate title page that contains contact information about the author, including name, institutional affiliation, e-mail address, and phone number. All other pages should be free of identifying information.
  • All submissions should include an abstract of 500 words or less, as well as a list of at least five keywords.
  • Submission materials should be sent via e-mail to the journal’s editor, Dr. Zachary Stiegler, at stiegler@iup.edu.

Book Reviews 

The Journal of Communications Media Studies also welcomes proposals for academic book reviews. Books under review should be current (published within the last two to three years) and relevant to the field of communication and media studies. Proposals may be sent to Assistant Editor Bradley Rohlf ( b.m.rohlf@iup.edu) for consideration.
