ALI Instructor

The American Language Institute accepts instructor applications year-round for individuals interested in teaching at our intensive English program. Instructor start dates are in August, January, and May.

Program Description

The American Language Institute at Indiana University of Pennsylvania has been welcoming students from around the world for more than 30 years. The ALI offers intensive English programs for students who want to improve their language proficiency and cultural understanding. Classes are offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters following IUP’s academic calendar.

The American Language Institute offers a variety of programs to meet students' language learning needs and educational goals. The ALI typically offers several levels of study with classes on reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and culture as well as special topics such as test preparation, community participation, and English through film and media.

Salary

Instructor salary includes all instructional and administrative duties performed as an ALI instructor. This is a part-time contract position that does not include benefits.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have relevant teaching experience and a master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or closely related field. Instructors should have experience successfully working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Highly advanced English language proficiency is expected of all ALI instructors.

Desirable Qualifications

University-based intensive English teaching and international teaching experience is preferred. Professional involvement in the field, including membership of professional organizations, presentations, and publication as well as academic accomplishments, will also be considered.

SkillZone Supervisor

The Office of International Education is currently accepting applications for a SkillZone Supervisor. The priority deadline for applications is April 25. Responsibilities would begin in the Summer 2014 term and continue throughout the 2014–2015 academic year.

Program Description

The SkillZone program is a new initiative to provide academic support for IUP international students and scholars at all levels (undergraduate, exchange, graduate, and intensive English program). SkillZone is a free drop-in program for international students to access support for essential academic abilities including presentation and communication skills, study strategies, academic integrity questions, and additional support as needed. The supervisor is responsible for program planning, disseminating information, training and mentoring tutors, and supervising SkillZone sessions (Monday-Thursday from 3:00-8:00)

Salary

The contract rate will be $20 per hour. The summer contract will be for twenty hours of planning and preparation. Fall and spring contracts will be for twenty hours per week. The salary includes all instructional and administrative duties performed as the SkillZone Supervisor. This is a part-time contract position that does not include benefits.

Desirable Qualifications

Administrative experience, particularly in leadership or supervisory roles, is preferred. International experience, professional involvement in the field, and academic accomplishments will also be considered.
