2012 Family Weekend Schedule

Indonesian Cultural Arts Day activity is sponsored by the IUP Office of International Education and by the Indonesian Embassy.

Spanning 13,000 islands and a great diversity of people, Indonesia hosts a fascinating array of dynamic art forms. The IUP Indonesian Cultural Arts Day will celebrate the unique cultural arts of Indonesia on Saturday, October 27, with displays featuring arts from different regions of Indonesia, workshop opportunities to learn Indonesian music and dance, and an evening performance highlighting different styles of music and dance from Indonesia. These events are the culmination of the IUP International Week as well as featured events of the IUP Family Weekend.

10:00 p.m. Crimson Event Center, Folger Hall Bingo! Come and enjoy one of America's oldest pasttimes! Prizes will be available. Sponsored by BACCHUS.

9:30–11:30 a.m. Hadley Union Building, Atrium Family Weekend Brunch: Join members of the administration and faculty at the family reception and complimentary continental brunch. Free and open to the public.
9:30–11:30 a.m. Hadley Union Building, Conemaugh Room Kids Korner: IUP’s Mortar Board Society will host face painting, games, and other fun events for our youngest Family Weekend visitors! Free and open to the public.
9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Hadley Union Building, Atrium IUP Ambassadors Tuition Raffle: IUP Ambassadors are raffling off one semester of free in-state tuition and a runner-up prize of a $500 Co-Op Store gift card. Announcement of the winners will take place at halftime of the football game!
9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Hadley Union Building, Ohio Room Indonesian Cultural Arts Exhibition: Display of the arts and crafts of different regions of Indonesia. Free and open to the public.
11:45 a.m. (Please arrive by 11:30 for entrance.) Weyandt Hall Planetarium Planetarium Show. Weyandt Hall Planetarium--tickets sold out!
12:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. University Museum, Sutton Hall “Through the Oak Grove: A History of Indiana University of Pennsylvania” Free and open to the public.

1:00 p.m. Pidgeon Natatorium IUP Crimson Hawks Swimming vs. the Fighting Scots of Edinboro
1:00 p.m. Miller Stadium IUP Crimson Hawks Football vs. Clarion University of Pennsylvania: Watch high-level football action when the Crimson Hawks take on the Golden Eagles of Clarion! Tickets available at IUP Athletics.
2:00–3:00 p.m. Eberly Hall, Rm. 121 Haunted IUP: The Ghosts Speak! Limited seating; advance ticket (free) is required. This is not suitable for young children or anyone who may be frightened by EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena, or "ghost voices"). Presented by Dr. Laurel Black and the Paranormal Society at IUP. Tickets sold out!
3:00 p.m. South Campus Field IUP Women’s Soccer vs. Clarion University: come cheer the Crimson Hawks as they seek to outscore the Golden Eagles of Clarion.
3:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m. Monogahela Room, Hadley Union Building Karaoke and Board Games by SOAR. Join with others in family entertainmen, SOAR style, with singing and playing board games!
3:30–5:30 p.m. Hadley Union Building, Ohio Room Angklung (bamboo instrument ensemble) Workshop: No prior music experience is necessary. Workshop taught by visiting guest artists from Washington, D.C. Free and open to the public; student attendance vouchers available.

4:00 p.m. Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex IUP Women’s Volleyball vs. Edinboro University: Cheer the Crimson Hawks to victory over the Fighting Scots of Edinboro!
5:30–7:00 p.m. Crimson Event Center, Folger Hall Family Weekend Buffet Dinner: Take advantage of a delicious, convenient, and inexpensive dining opportunity! Relax with a sumptuous, all-you-can-eat Family Weekend dinner buffet, including various entrees, vegetables, and desserts. Limited seating; advance purchase is required. Tickets sold out!
7:00 p.m. TBA Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother: Free film showing of Sparkle. Sponsored by the African American Cultural Center.
7:00 p.m. Gorell Recital Hall; second floor of Sutton Hall Indonesian Cultural Arts Concert: Traditional and popular Indonesian music and dance, including the Kolaborasi Gamelan Jawa (Javanese instrumental ensemble) and Calung (bamboo instrumental ensemble) from the Pittsburgh area, Balinese dancers and the Anklung ensemble (another style of bamboo instrument ensemble) from Washington, D.C., and Sundanese (Western Java) musical styles performed by Indra Ridwan, faculty member of the Indonesian College of Arts at the Pasundan University in Bandung, Indonesia. In addition, IUP faculty Drs. Stanley Chepaitis and Linda Jennings will perform with the Kolaborasi Gamelan Jawa ensemble. The program will conclude with a performace of Dandung, a popular style of music, with a chance for audience members to join in the dance. Free and open to the public; student attendance vouchers available.
