I am honored to work as a graduate assistant at IUP in the Department of Health and Physical Education. In addition to working as a graduate assistant, I am also a K-8th grade physical education teacher at a Catholic school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I really enjoy being a physical education teacher, and I honestly feel this is my calling. My enthusiasm for teaching and providing physical activities for children started many years ago after graduating as a student-athlete from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While working at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, I founded, coached, and organized a youth track and field team at my former church. Track and field events were not the only focus for these youth. Basketball, swimming, and discussions on eating healthy were also incorporated in our meetings and practices. After getting married and relocating to New York City, I continued to work with youth in the area of coaching and teaching/physical education. As a recreational specialist for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, I had the opportunity to work with youth in a recreational summer program. Later, after having children, I decided to focus on being a stay-at-home mom and supporting their various activities. As they got older, I eventually took part-time positions as a playground monitor and a kindergarten assistant. I am very eager to begin the next chapter in my life.

I am currently in my first year of the Health and Physical Education master’s program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I graduated from IUP in May 2012 with a degree in Sports Administration and a minor in Business. While attending IUP, I played on the varsity softball team and spent a year as a volunteer assistant coach. This year, I will be a graduate assistant for the Health and Physical Education Department and a volunteer assistant coach for the softball team. I have spent many years working at softball clinics, helping teach youth athletes the fundamentals of the game. At IUP, I worked with the women’s basketball team and in the Memorial Field House weight room. All of these different experiences have created my diverse expertise in many areas of physical activity.

I am excited to be persuing my master’s degree and to be a graduate assistant in the Health and Physical Education Department. Furthermore, I am just as excited to be working as a staff in the Homeschool Program. I have my undergraduate degree from IUP in the Sports Administration program with a minor in Business. While attending IUP, I have worked for the Athletic Department, which included working sporting events and monitoring the weight rooms. I have assisted with the Healthy Kid’s Days at the local YMCA, and I am also involved with my church youth group. I have been actively involved in intramurals at IUP; participating in the flag football and basketball programs. I am currently still involved in flag football and basketball at both IUP and the YMCA. I feel with my diverse background in sports and my time spent at IUP, I can really help this program succeed. I have a profound love for sports and teaching, so I am excited to be a part of the team.
