Professional Experience and Interests

Holly’s interest in student affairs began as an undergraduate at La Roche College. An active student leader in residence life and student government, Holly realized the true possibility of a career in student affairs while completing a Sociology of Work course assignment during her junior year. She began her graduate work in the SAHE program at IUP immediately after commencement and held an assistantship in residence life at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa.

Upon completion of her graduate program, Holly obtained a position as an area coordinator at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and became actively involved in the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Holly has since served in various appointed and elected positions within ACPA’s Standing Committee for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Awareness, and the Commission for Legal and Judicial Affairs within ACPA.

Holly left Smith for a position at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh and has spent the majority of her career at CMU in a variety of positions. Her responsibility areas have included residence life, judicial affairs, late night programming, pre-college programs, and fraternity and sorority life. She has particularly enjoyed the opportunities at Carnegie Mellon to develop and coordinate special projects, which have included a grant funded outdoor adventure series, hosting and advising displaced students post-hurricane Katrina, compliance and risk regulation, and travel to various international sites for consultation. Holly spent a two-year hiatus at Chatham University as the director of Campus Life, but she was quickly drawn back to Carnegie Mellon. She currently serves as an assistant dean of Student Affairs at Carnegie Mellon with major areas of focus in graduate student life, academic integrity, and assessment.

Holly and her partner, Cheryl, are the proud moms of three beautiful children. As a family they enjoy swimming, camping, and going to the movies. Holly is also currently finishing her Ph.D. at Kent State University in Higher Education Administration. She has completed her coursework and was certified as a candidate in July 2012 with hopes of finishing the program in 2014.
