ACE Tutoring

What is ACE Tutoring?

ACE is an acronym for After Class English. ACE Tutoring is geared for effective and customized ESL learning by creating independent, student-centered, and self-directed language learning.

Where is it?

Tutoring sessions are in Room 208 in Eicher Hall (next to the Power Plant on campus).

When is it?

Each student is given a specific ACE tutoring schedule according to his or her class schedule. Tutoring sessions are held either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.

What do ALI students do?

Each ALI student is assigned an ESL tutor. Students select the topics or skills they need to master (or want to study) from a list organized by the tutors. Tutor assignment is based on students’ needs and requirements in ESL learning. Student and tutor preferences are taken into account whenever possible.

Do ALI students have to attend ACE Tutoring?

Yes. ACE Tutoring is not an optional session of English learning. It is a different format from regular English classes and another opportunity to get involved with English learning through interactions between an ACE tutor and ALI students.

Who are the ESL tutors?

All tutors are IUP students who are native speakers of English or have native-like English proficiency. Many are graduate students in the TESOL programs in IUP's English department. All tutors are highly-qualified and experienced ESL specialists and have been carefully selected and trained to become ACE tutors by the American Language Institute administration.
