Short Text:

The Writing Center is a quiet, comfortable place for students to work on class assignments or meet with a tutor. Peer tutors can help with class assignments or presentations at any point in the writing process, from brainstorming to revising. Though they are happy to provide strategies for revising papers, tutors do not write, edit, or grade papers.

The Writing Center's main location is 218 Eicher Hall (between Wallwork Hall and the smokestacks) and is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and 6:00–9:00 p.m., and Friday 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. The Writing Center’s library satellite is located on the first floor of Stapleton Library behind the reference desk and is open Monday through Thursday 8:00–11 p.m. and Sunday 5:00–10:00 p.m. No appointment is needed at either location—just walk in.

Live peer tutoring is also available through the Online Writing Center. You can find more information or schedule an appointment for an online session by visiting the Writing Center. You can also ask writing questions online at Facebook or by sending a tweet to @IUPWriting.

Long Text:

The Writing Center is a quiet, comfortable place for students to work on class assignments or meet with a tutor. The Writing Center is equipped with 43 computers that run the full Microsoft Office suite, a printer, and a small library of reference books, including current editions of the MLA Handbook and the APA Manual.

Peer tutors can help with class assignments or presentations and out-of-class writing such as cover letters and scholarship applications. The tutor will work individually with you at any point in the writing process, from brainstorming to revising. Though they are happy to provide strategies for revising papers, tutors do not write, edit or grade papers.

The Writing Center can be of the most help if you:

  • prepare: identify specific issues/areas that you would like to discuss
  • participate: actively discuss your paper with the tutor
  • practice: make changes during the session and afterward

Sessions typically last 30-45 minutes and usually require follow-up sessions. Peer tutors respect the confidentiality of your visit; a report form will be sent to your instructor upon your request.
