Admission Classifications
IUP’s two graduate admission classifications are “Degree-seeking Admission” and “Non-degree Seeking Admission.”
Graduate students are expected to contact their academic advisor or program coordinator for course registration advisement.
Candidacy Exam
In departments which require it, the candidacy examination is administered by the department in the student’s field of specialization. 
Comprehensive Exam
This examination is given to determine the student’s progress in the degree field and fields related to it and the student’s likelihood of success in his her research dissertation phase.

Credit Requirement
A minimum of 60 graduate semester credits, exclusive of dissertation credits, must be earned beyond the bachelor’s degree for any of the doctorates offered at IUP.
A dissertation is required of all doctoral candidates and must demonstrate the candidate’s mastery of his her research and reflect the results of an original investigation in the principal field of study.

Dissertation Committee
