Personal Narrative:

Dr. Sue Rieg is a professor of education, chairperson of the Department of Professional Studies in Education, and the early childhood faculty liaison for the new Professional Development School partnership with the Indiana Area School District. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and her master’s degree in Elementary Mathematics from IUP. She earned her Doctor of Education degree and Principal Certification from Duquesne University.

Prior to her appointment at IUP, she was an elementary school teacher (grades K, 1, 2, and 4), instructional support teacher (grades K-6), and elementary school principal in the Indiana Area School District. Recently, she was awarded grants to work with the teachers to plan and implement the Professional Development School partnership with the Indiana Area School District. Teacher candidates spend their final year at IUP fully immersed in the school district.

In 2014, she received the IUP Distinguished Faculty Award for Service. She is committed to serving the University, the College of Education and Educational Technology, the Department of Professional Studies in Education, and the education profession.

Dr. Rieg has co-authored two books, co-edited one book, and written one book chapter and several professional articles. She has presented at international, national, regional, state, and local conferences. Her research interests include professional development schools, school leadership, classroom assessment, and students at-risk.

Dr. Rieg enjoys spending time with her husband, Mr. Michael Rieg (social studies teacher), and their dog, Lucy.
