The Pittsburgh Foundation — Scholarship Opportunities

The Pittsburgh Foundation is the seventeenth largest community foundation in the country. Since 1945, it has worked to improve the quality of life in the Pittsburgh region by evaluating and addressing community issues, promoting charitable giving, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community. Numerous scholarship opportunities are available for students enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) — Scholarship Opportunities

The Organization of Chinese Americans, Inc. (OCA) is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization of concerned Chinese Americans known as a leading organization in administering scholarships for Asian Pacific American students. OCA aims to embrace the hopes and aspirations of the nearly two million citizens and residents of Chinese ancestry in the United States as well as to better the lives of the ten million Asian Americans across the country.

Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association Scholarship

The Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association (PSFPA) continues its dedication and commitment to foster care through a scholarship fund for continued education. This fund was established in 1988 by the PSFPA for Pennsylvania’s foster children. In 2001, the program grew to include biological/adopted children of PSRFA’s members. The scholarship program is open to high school seniors who are presently in care through a private or public foster care agency in Pennsylvania or whose parents are active members of the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association and who will be continuing their education.

CORE Scholarships

CORE offers promise scholarships to high school seniors to help pay first-year college expenses (including living expenses and books). The exact amount of a CORE Promise Scholarship will be determined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated through the completion of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

To be eligible to apply within the 2014–2015 application cycle, you must be:

  • A 2014 graduate of a School District of Philadelphia public, charter, archdiocese, or private high school.
  • A resident of the City of Philadelphia. An applicant attending a parochial or private school must provide one item of proof of residency in Philadelphia along with one parent or legal guardian.
  • Planning to pursue an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree at a participating college or university.

In addition to the CORE Promise Scholarship, students can apply for CORE Reaching Independence by Saving for Education (RISE) Scholarship.  This is a matched savings program offering low-income students and families an 8:1 match for savings towards postsecondary education expenses at both 2 and 4 year colleges.

  Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships are designed to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers various scholarship programs for Hispanic American undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full time in degree-seeking programs. During its thirty-two-year history, HSF has awarded more than 82,000 scholarships in excess of $221 million to Latino students. Scholarship awards generally range from $1,000 to $3,000. National Restaurant Association Foundation Scholarships

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) encourages and supports senior high school students, undergraduate students, and educators who are committed to furthering their education and enhancing their careers in the restaurant and food-service industry by awarding scholarships through its scholarships. The NRAEF has awarded more than $1.7 million in 2008 to qualified and deserving students who are committed to furthering their education in restaurant and food-service management. Sallie Mae Fund Scholarships

Addressing financial need through scholarships is one of the key elements of the Sallie Mae Fund’s efforts. Since 2001, the Sallie Mae Fund has awarded $14.3 million in scholarships to help more than 5,700 students enroll in college. JPMorgan Chase/UNCF Corporate Scholars Programs

The JPMorgan Chase/UNCF Corporate Scholars Program has been established to increase minority student interest in JPMorgan Chase and expand the company’s pool of minority employees. Scholars participate in eight- to ten-week paid internships and receive financial need-based scholarships up to $10,000. Eligible students are sophomore and junior students seeking a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, computer information systems, economics, engineering, finance, marketing, mathematics, operations management, or software engineering and must have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Wal-Mart Foundation Scholarships

Wal-Mart proudly sponsors various scholarship programs. Eligible students may or may not be an employee or Wal-Mart must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Other requirement may need to be met depending on the scholarship to which you are applying. Deadline for submission: various dates

The Washington County Community Foundation was initiated by community leaders to encourage charitable giving. Varsity Tutors Scholarship

Varsity Tutors offers a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest to students who write the best essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage will be able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes will be reviewed by Varsity Tutors and one winner will be chosen who will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. Navy Collegiate Programs

The Navy provides money for students to focus on completing their degree without having to take on a part-time job. They’ll graduate with a guaranteed job as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen, meet commissioning standards for desired specialty, have a minimum 2.7 GPA, have 30 semester hours completed, have fewer than 36 months to graduate, and be less than 34 years of age before degree completion (some specialties have younger age requirements. The Eldred World War II Museum Scholarship

The Eldred WWII Museum cordially invites college students to participate in a supplemental self-guided learning experience utilizing the considerable World War II reference resources of the Eldred WWII Museum in Eldred, Pa. The program is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. Students may be subsidized by foundation grants, university grants, or participate independently. Student interns are also welcome. Deadline for submission: consideration made on a rolling basis

Krill Oil Scholarship

Viva Labs will be giving $1,000 to two students, pursuing further education beyond a high school level, as part of the “Krill Oil - Educate Your Heart” program. Interested participants must meet the following criteria: Eligibility is for any student currently enrolled in the Fall/Spring school year of 2012–2013 at any college, university, trade, or technical school within the United States or Canada; students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (or the equivalent; students must be 16 years or older at the time of enrollment; must be a Canadian/American citizen or hold a valid student visa; winning participants will be required to submit a photo for promotional purposes. Medical Professionals of Tomorrow Scholarship

The Medical Professionals of Tomorrow Scholarship is available to full-time college students who are pursuing a course of study in a medical field, including those studying to become a doctor, nurse, physical therapist, anesthesiologist, radiologist, and all those who are pursuing other medical fields. One applicant will be selected to receive this $5,000 scholarship award. Deadline for submission: December 31, 2013

Talbot’s Women’s Scholarship Fund

The Talbot's Charitable Foundation is pleased to offer a unique, national, $200,000 scholarship program: a fund just for women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least ten years ago and who are now seeking a college degree. The Talbot's Women’s Scholarship Fund annually awards seventeen $10,000 scholarships and one $30,000 scholarship to women returning to college. Deadline for submission: January 2014

The American Chemical Society Scholars Program

The American Chemical Society provides scholarships for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or other chemically related fields such as environmental science, materials science, or toxicology. The program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students to pursue degrees in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. Deadline for submission: January 4, 2014

Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education Scholarship

The PBCOHE will award $1,000 scholarships to the most talented undergraduates and graduate African American students in Pennsylvania. Deadline for submission: January 10, 2014

Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship

Through the Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship, doctoral students may receive up to four years of financial support while pursuing degrees in the fields of study important to the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration. Areas of specific interest include: nuclear science, materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics, and high-energy density physics. Deadline for application submission is: January 15, 2014

American Council of Engineering Companies/PA (ACEC/PA) Scholarship

The ACEC/PA is offering at least one $3,000 scholarship (with the possibility of more). To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen, be a full-time sophomore or junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering or environmental sciences, and meet at least one of these criteria: attend college in Pennsylvania, be a Pennsylvania resident, serve or have served as an intern with a Pennsylvania office of an ACEC/PA member firm. Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Anita Borg devoted her life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. All finalists and recipients will also be invited to an all-expenses paid trip to the Google Headquarters in California. Eligible candidates will be entering their senior year of undergraduate study or are graduate students in the United States pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5. Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Scholarships

The Jewish federation of Greater Pittsburgh awards grants to students who reside in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. Any Jewish high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student with demonstrated need is eligible to apply. Deadline for submission: February 11, 2014

Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA)

The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society is an association of industry professionals focused on promoting and advancing the field of automation and control. ISA is committed to assisting future automation professionals prepare for, kick off, and make the most of their careers by providing scholarships, discounted student memberships, opportunities to publish papers, student activities, and mentoring other activities. Clark E. DeHaven Scholarship Trust

The Clark E. DeHaven Scholarship is intended to provide financial support to students who demonstrate a commitment to a food service career. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited program that will lead to an undergraduate degree in a field of study designed to prepare students for careers in food service or related areas. The scholarship is intended to be used during the traditional academic year (Fall through Spring) for academic purposes such as tuition, fees, room and board, and/or books. Scholarships will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students only. Deadline for submission: February 14, 2014

Memorial Education Fund Scholarship

The Institute of Management Accountants is offering the Memorial Education Fund Scholarship to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in accounting or finance. The scholarship ranges from $1,000 to $2,500. Applicants will also be considered for the Stuart Cameron and Margaret McCloud Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. The winner will also receive lodging, transportation, and registration costs for both the IMA Annual Conference and Exposition and the IMA Student Leadership Conference. Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship competition. This scholarship competition is for undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full time in a university preparing for a career in state and local government finance in the United States or Canada. Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship. This scholarship competition is for minority students of public administration, accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management) at the upper-division undergraduate or graduate level. One scholarship of $5,000 is available for award. Deadline for submission: February 21, 2014

John H. Jones Memorial Scholarship

The John H. Jones Memorial Scholarship Award will consist of registration, meals and lodging at the Annual PRPS State Conference and a certificate. The 2014 PRPS Annual Conference is March 22-26, 2014, at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort.  Minimum qualifications for this award are:

  1. Full-time student in recreation and parks curriculum at a college or university in Pennsylvania at the time of the conference.
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or equivalent.
  3. Outstanding involvement in student activities.

Robert W. Crawford Memorial Scholarship Award

The Robert W. Crawford Memorial Scholarship Award will consist of registration, meals and lodging at the Annual PRPS State Conference, a certificate, plus a $500 scholarship. The 2014 PRPS Annual Conference is March 22-26, 2014, at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
Minimum qualifications for this award are: 

  1. Full-time student in recreation and parks curriculum at a college or university in Pennsylvania at the time of the conference.
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or equivalent.
  3. Outstanding involvement in student activities.
  4. Member in good standing of PRPS

Mesothelioma Group Scholarship

The Mesothelioma Group is proud to present the first bi-annual Mesothelioma Group Cancer Scholarship, awarding $1,500 to one male and one female student who have experienced and overcome strong adversity in the face of cancer. Valid applicants include those diagnosed with cancer (active or in remission), those who have lost a parent to cancer, or those whose parent is currently fighting cancer.  Deadline for submission:  March 1, 2014

McKee Scholars

The Estate of John McKee, through the McKee Scholarship Committee, offers scholarships for college or vocational training to high school seniors or graduates (not over age 19 years at the time of the application) who meet all of the following criteria: (a) fatherless boys (i.e., whose biological or lost adoptive father is actually dead or has been declared missing by a competent authority) of any race; "missing" may also include permanently absent, dysfunctional, and not functioning as a father to the applicant; (b) in need of financial assistance; and (c) native to the five-county Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia). Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation — Wildlife Leadership Awards

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Wildlife Leadership Awards Program was established to recognize, encourage, and promote leadership among future wildlife management professionals. Pennsylvania Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (PRAEF) Scholarship Program

The Pennsylvania Restaurant Association Educational Foundation offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors furthering their education in the hospitality industry and to students currently enrolled in an accredited Hospitality Culinary Arts program in an accredited post-secondary institution. The Drive to Learn Scholarship

Shift Insurance is offering the Drive to Learn scholarship award to college students across the United States to honor the learning done in and outside of classroom walls. If you are currently a full-time student at a four-year university, graduate program, community college, or trade school, Shift Insurance wants to hear from you. Simply tell them about an important learning experience you had while on the road, either as a driver or a passenger. Deadline for submission: March 1, 2014

HubShout Internet Marketing Scholarship

Students who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and are working toward a career in online marketing are invited to apply for the HubShout Scholarship. A scholarship will be awarded to three students ($1,000 each) who have at least a 3.0 GPA and can best demonstrate a passion for online marketing. Deadline for submission: March 1, 2014

Indiana Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) Scholarship

This scholarship in the amount of $500 is open to undergraduate students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and who have completed at least 28 credits. Applicant must maintain a permanent residence in Indiana County and demonstrate involvement in the campus community as well as a commitment to the local community. Bernie Smith Scholarship

The Bernie Smith Scholarship was established in 2007 by the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission, in honor of Indiana County Commissioner Bernie Smith, who passed away on September 2, 2006.  Eligible students are those students who have been involved in activities promoting the mission of the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission.  The student must be furthering their education in some fashion (college, trade school, etc.).  In addition to completing the application, the applicant can submit up to three letters of support that confirm the student’s experience and accomplishments that promote the mission of the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission.  Deadline for submission:  March 13, 2014

Graham Sefton Baskin and Anna Mae Sweeney Baskin Foundation Scholarship

The Graham Sefton Baskin and Anna Mae Sweeney Baskin Foundation awards scholarships for higher education to those person (i) attending or who attended Marion Center Area High School, and (ii) who intend to pursue or are pursing a degree or career in nursing or physical education.  Deadline for submission:  March 15, 2014

 National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

The National Federation of the Blind provides a broad array of scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars. Applicants must be legally blind and pursuing a full-time, post-secondary course of study. Scholarship winners are also given the opportunity to attend the NFB national convention with all expenses paid. The convention provides opportunities to develop mentoring relationships and network with the nation’s most dynamic leaders of the blind community. Deadline for submission: March 31, 2014

Suzanne M. Lynch Memorial Scholarship

The Suzanne M. Lynch memorial scholarship was created to assist interior design majors who are completing their junior year at one of the following colleges: IUP, LaRoche College, Mercyhurst College, Carlow College, or the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and demonstrate financial need. Deadline for submission: March 31, 2014

ASCO Numatics Scholarship

ASCO Numatics will award two merit-based scholarships of $5,000 each to exceptional undergraduate and graduate engineering students pursuing careers in manufacturing, processing, or other industrial automation related disciplines. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an engineering, instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation discipline at an accredited U.S. educational institution. Applicants must be entering their junior or senior year in a four-year undergraduate degree program or enrolled in a graduate program. They must also have at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident. Deadline for submission: March 31, 2014

American Association of University Women Scholarships

Two Scholarships are offered for the 2014-15 Academic Year by the Indiana Branch of the American Association of University Women (co-sponsored by IUP Women’s Studies Program). 

  1. A $500 scholarship award for AY 2014-15 is offered by the Indiana County Branch of the American Association of University Women to an IUP Undergraduate Female Student living in Indiana County with an outstanding academic record who has earned at least 30 IUP credits, and is planning to fulfill the course requirements for a Women’s Studies minor.
  2. A $500 scholarship award for AY 2014-15 is offered by the Indiana County Branch of the American Association of University Women to an IUP Undergraduate or Graduate female student living in Indiana County who considers herself to be a non-traditional student. For the purposes of this scholarship, the granting organization – the Indiana Branch-AAUW – defines ‘non-traditional’ eligibility as a female student whose academic progress has been challenged or delayed because of family, dependents, economic or other extenuating circumstances that have placed her academic progress at risk. Undergraduate applicants must have earned at least 30 IUP undergraduate credits; graduate student applicants must have earned at least 6 IUP graduate credits.

iModules Scholarship

Now in its sixth year, the iModules Scholarship Program annually provides individual financial scholarships to students enrolled in secondary or higher education institutions that are current iModules clients. Students must meet the minimum qualification to be eligible for a scholarship: full-time student for the Fall 2013 semester, attending or will be attending a school that is an iModules client for Fall 2013, a minimum “C” grade point average. Deadline for submission: April 1, 2014

John Family Health Careers Scholarship

The John Family Health Careers Scholarship at Evangelical Community Hospital provides annual financial awards to students entering college for the purpose of pursuing a career as a respiratory therapist, medical technologist, medical imaging technologist, clinical laboratory scientist, or cytotechnologist. Applicants must have a diploma or equivalent from high schools in Union, Snyder, or Northumberland counties, Pennsylvania. Deadline for submission: April 1, 2014

Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association Scholarship

The Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association endeavors to promote health and safety within the mining industry. This scholarship shall be open to persons currently employed or who are pursuing careers in the mining industry, safety, and health fields. High school graduates, undergraduates, and graduate students currently enrolled in a college or university are all eligible to apply. Deadline for submission: April 1, 2014

Media and Technology Blogging Scholarship

Direct2TV.com is offering a $2,500 Media and Technology Blogging scholarship to a current or incoming undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited university who writes and publishes a blog post describing his or her interaction with technology, and how technology functions as part of interaction with today’s society in general. Appalachian Healthcare Human Resources Society (AHCHRS) Scholarship

A scholarship in memory of former AHCHRS members Dean Stultz and Samuel Griggs, in the amount of $2,000, is being offered to individuals majoring in Human Resources or a Business major with a minor in Human Resource Management Administration. New Economy Technology Scholarship (NETS) Program

The New Economy Technology Scholarship Program is administrated jointly by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This scholarship makes financial aid available to undergraduates studying in an approved science field.

The goal of this program is to help address the critical need to educate and retain a workforce of highly trained technology experts that will help Pennsylvania attract and support new employers. Recipients of these scholarships must agree to work full time in Pennsylvania following graduation, one year for each year that a scholarship award is received. These scholarships are not based on financial need.

New Economy Technology Scholarships provide up to $3,000 per year based on total educational costs (tuition and mandatory fees, room, board, and an allowance for books) to students who are enrolled full time, for a maximum of three years. Deadline for submission: December 31, 2014

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the association’s first executive director. This scholarship is for undergraduate students who are pursuing their first degree in nursing. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. Deadline for submission:  January 16, 2015
