The Pittsburgh Foundation — Scholarship Opportunities
The Pittsburgh Foundation is the seventeenth largest community foundation in the country. Since 1945, it has worked to improve the quality of life in the Pittsburgh region by evaluating and addressing community issues, promoting charitable giving, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community. Numerous scholarship opportunities are available for students enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) — Scholarship Opportunities
The Organization of Chinese Americans, Inc. (OCA) is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization of concerned Chinese Americans known as a leading organization in administering scholarships for Asian Pacific American students. OCA aims to embrace the hopes and aspirations of the nearly two million citizens and residents of Chinese ancestry in the United States as well as to better the lives of the ten million Asian Americans across the country.
Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association Scholarship
The Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association (PSFPA) continues its dedication and commitment to foster care through a scholarship fund for continued education. This fund was established in 1988 by the PSFPA for Pennsylvania’s foster children. In 2001, the program grew to include biological/adopted children of PSRFA’s members. The scholarship program is open to high school seniors who are presently in care through a private or public foster care agency in Pennsylvania or whose parents are active members of the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association and who will be continuing their education.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships
Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships are designed to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers various scholarship programs for Hispanic American undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full time in degree-seeking programs. During its thirty-two-year history, HSF has awarded more than 82,000 scholarships in excess of $221 million to Latino students. Scholarship awards generally range from $1,000 to $3,000. National Restaurant Association Foundation Scholarships
The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) encourages and supports senior high school students, undergraduate students, and educators who are committed to furthering their education and enhancing their careers in the restaurant and food-service industry by awarding scholarships through its scholarships. JPMorgan Chase/UNCF Corporate Scholars Programs
The JPMorgan Chase/UNCF Corporate Scholars Program has been established to increase minority student interest in JPMorgan Chase and expand the company’s pool of minority employees. Scholars participate in eight- to ten-week paid internships and receive financial need-based scholarships up to $10,000. Eligible students are sophomore and junior students seeking a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, computer information systems, economics, engineering, finance, marketing, mathematics, operations management, or software engineering and must have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Navy Collegiate Programs
The Navy provides money for students to focus on completing their degree without having to take on a part-time job. They’ll graduate with a guaranteed job as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen, meet commissioning standards for desired specialty, have a minimum 2.7 GPA, have 30 semester hours completed, have fewer than 36 months to graduate, and be less than 34 years of age before degree completion (some specialties have younger age requirements. The Eldred World War II Museum Scholarship
The Eldred WWII Museum cordially invites college students to participate in a supplemental self-guided learning experience utilizing the considerable World War II reference resources of the Eldred WWII Museum in Eldred, Pa. The program is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. Somerset Hospital Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship
The Somerset Hospital Auxiliary is now taking applications for its annual Nursing Scholarship Program. The $500 scholarhips are available to Somerset County residents pursuing a career as a registered nurse. The applicant must be a current Somerset County resident for six months or more. An application will need to be completed along with three letters of recommendation, an official high school transcript, an essay of 150–200 words explaining why you want to be a nurse and why you deserve consideration for this scholarship, and a letter of acceptance from a nursing school accredited by the National League for Nursing or CNNE accredited. Horatio Alger Scholarship Program
The Horatio Alger Association takes pride in awarding college scholarships to college bound students who have proven their ability to succeed despite facing adversities in their young lives. The eligibility criteria to be considered for National Scholarships and Horatio Alger State Scholarship Programs are as follows: You must be enrolled full time as a high school senior with plans to enter college no later than the fall following graduation, have a critical financial need, be involved in cocurricular and community activities, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, have a minimum 2.0 GPA, and be a United States citizen. New Economy Technology Scholarship (NETS) Program
The New Economy Technology Scholarship Program is administrated jointly by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This scholarship makes financial aid available to undergraduates studying in an approved science field.
The goal of this program is to help address the critical need to educate and retain a workforce of highly trained technology experts that will help Pennsylvania attract and support new employers. Recipients of these scholarships must agree to work full time in Pennsylvania following graduation, one year for each year that a scholarship award is received. These scholarships are not based on financial need.
New Economy Technology Scholarships provide up to $3,000 per year based on total educational costs (tuition and mandatory fees, room, board, and an allowance for books) to students who are enrolled full time, for a maximum of three years. Deadline for submission: December 31, 2012

Talbot’s Women’s Scholarship Fund
The Talbots Charitable Foundation is pleased to offer a unique, national, $200,000 scholarship program: a fund just for women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least ten years ago and who are now seeking a college degree. The American Chemical Society Scholars Program

Varsity Tutors Scholarship
Varsity Tutors offers a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest to students who write the best essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage will be able to vote via social media for submitted entries. Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Anita Borg devoted her life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. All finalists and recipients will also be invited to an all-expenses paid trip to the Google Headquarters in California. Eligible candidates will be entering their senior year of undergraduate study or are graduate students in the United States pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5. David A. Long Scholarship
This scholarship is offered by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply. The Pennsylvania section of the AWWA encourages study in fields relating to the water supply industry and is offering a $2,000 scholarship to eligible students. McKee Scholars
The Estate of John McKee, through the McKee Scholarship Committee, offers scholarships for college or vocational training to high school seniors or graduates (not over age 19 years at the time of the application) who meet all of the following criteria: (a) fatherless boys (i.e., whose biological or lost adoptive father is actually dead or has been declared missing by a competent authority) of any race; "missing" may also include permanently absent, dysfunctional, and not functioning as a father to the applicant; (b) in need of financial assistance; and (c) native to the five-county Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia). Indiana County Junior Women’s Civic Club Zaida Weaver Scholarship
The Indiana County Junior Women’s Civic Club Zaida Weaver Scholarship is named after the late Mrs. W. Clair Weaver, former sponsor of the club and honorary life member. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a female Indiana County resident, 21 years of age or older, who is beginning a course of study or returning to school to complete an interrupted education. Johnstown/Somerset Labor Council, AFL-CIO
Since the early 1990s, the Central Labor council has administered an annual essay contest encouraging students to conduct research about the many contributions organized labor has made to American society. Thousands of dollars have helped local student pay for their schooling. Applicants must submit a thousand-word essay on the subject assigned to the appropriate category.
There are two categories of applicants
- Category 1: Open to high school seniors who are either accepted or registered as a full-time student at a postsecondary educational institution. The subject of this category’s essay is "Health Care Crisis in the United States. How does it affect our families, our jobs, our retirees, and our communities?" Awards for this category are first prize from the Honorable Congressman John P. Murtha Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500; and second, third, and fourth prizes for this category are paid internships courtesy of Ameriserv Financial in the amounts of $1,300 (second prize), $1,200 (third prize), and $1,000 (fourth prize).
- Category 2: Open to full-time students currently attending an accredited postsecondary institution. The subject of this category’s essay is "How would workers benefit by the passage of the Employee Free choice Act (EFCA)?" First prize is a $1,200 scholarship and second prize is a $1,000 scholarship.
To apply, the essay must be typed in Times New Roman, 12 point, double-spaced on regular 8½" x 11" white paper. Do not cover. Information on the application must be either printed or typed. Complete the application form and return it along with your essay. Deadline for submission: March 31, 2013

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship
The National Federation of the Blind provides a broad array of scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars. Applicants must be legally blind and pursuing a full-time, post-secondary course of study. Scholarship winners are also given the opportunity to attend the NFB national convention with all expenses paid. AICPA John L. Carey Scholarships Program
Liberal arts students wishing to pursue graduate accounting study can receive financial aid through the AICPA John L. Carey Scholarships Program. Scholarships are available to all liberal arts degree holders of any regionally accredited U.S. institution who wish to pursue a CPA certificate. Scholarships are given based on academic achievement, leadership, and future career interests. Each year, up to seven recipients will be awarded $5,000 and will be eligible for renewal for one more year, provided satisfactory scholastic progress is maintained. Through this scholarship, $1,000 is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in computer science. iModules Scholarship
Now in its sixth year, the iModules Scholarship Program annually provides individual financial scholarships to students enrolled in secondary or higher education institutions that are current iModules clients. Students must meet the minimum qualification to be eligible for a scholarship: full-time student for the Fall 2013 semester, attending or will be attending a school that is an iModules client for Fall 2013, a minimum “C” grade point average. John Family Health Careers Scholarship

The Fayette County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has the unique opportunity, in relation to the aforementioned academic year, to offer two $500 awards to nontraditional students that are residents of Fayette County. The TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship is awarded to students whose volunteer efforts made a difference in their communities. The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the association’s first executive director. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Nursing Scholarship
The Nursing Scholarship Program is a selective program of the U.S. government that helps alleviate the critical shortage of registered nurses currently experienced by certain types of health care facilities by helping needy students complete their registered nurse training. In exchange for the scholarship, upon graduation, the newly minted nurses work at these types of facilities for at least two years. Nursing scholars fulfilling their service commitment receive a competitive salary and benefits package, which they negotiate directly with the employing facility.
Applications are accepted once each year, beginning in March or April and ending in April or May. Applicants selected to receive the scholarship are notified by postal letter no later than the end of July. In exchange for at least two years service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses, the Nursing Scholarship Program pays tuition, required fees, other reasonable costs, including required books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses, etc., and a monthly stipend ($1,289 for the 2012–2013 school year). You must meet the following criteria to be eligible: U.S. citizens (born or naturalized), nationals or lawful permanent residents, enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a professional registered nurse program (baccalaureate, graduate, associate degree, or diploma) at accredited school of nursing located in a U.S. state or territory, begin classes no later than September 30, free from any federal judgment liens, free from existing service commitments, and not delinquent on a federal debt. Preference is given to qualified applicants with the greatest financial need who are enrolled full time in an undergraduate nursing program. Deadline for submission: May 2, 2013
