The Pittsburgh Foundation — Scholarship Opportunities

The Pittsburgh Foundation is the seventeenth largest community foundation in the country. Since 1945, it has worked to improve the quality of life in the Pittsburgh region by evaluating and addressing community issues, promoting charitable giving, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community. Numerous scholarship opportunities are available for students enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) — Scholarship Opportunities

The Organization of Chinese Americans, Inc. (OCA) is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization of concerned Chinese Americans known as a leading organization in administering scholarships for Asian Pacific American students. OCA aims to embrace the hopes and aspirations of the nearly two million citizens and residents of Chinese ancestry in the United States as well as to better the lives of the ten million Asian Americans across the country.

Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association Scholarship

The Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association (PSFPA) continues its dedication and commitment to foster care through a scholarship fund for continued education. This fund was established in 1988 by the PSFPA for Pennsylvania’s foster children. In 2001, the program grew to include biological/adopted children of PSRFA’s members. The scholarship program is open to high school seniors who are presently in care through a private or public foster care agency in Pennsylvania or whose parents are active members of the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association and who will be continuing their education.

CORE Scholarships

CORE offers promise scholarships to high school seniors to help pay first-year college expenses (including living expenses and books). The exact amount of a CORE Promise Scholarship will be determined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated through the completion of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

To be eligible to apply within the 2015–2016 application cycle, you must be:

  • A 2015 graduate of a School District of Philadelphia public, charter, archdiocese, or private high school.
  • A resident of the City of Philadelphia. An applicant attending a parochial or private school must provide one item of proof of residency in Philadelphia along with one parent or legal guardian.
  • Planning to pursue an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree at a participating college or university.

In addition to the CORE Promise Scholarship, students can apply for CORE Reaching Independence by Saving for Education (RISE) Scholarship.  This is a matched savings program offering low-income students and families an 8:1 match for savings towards postsecondary education expenses at both 2 and 4 year colleges.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships are designed to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

​University Tutor

University Tutor helps students find the right tutor to acheive academic results.  The program will conduct a scholarship essay contest by posting a monthly essay prompt located at the UniversityTutor Website.  To enter, eligible participants must log on to the Website and submit a 300 word essay in response to the monthly prompt.  Winners of the contest will be awarded up to $1,000.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers various scholarship programs for Hispanic American undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full time in degree-seeking programs. During its thirty-two-year history, HSF has awarded more than 82,000 scholarships in excess of $221 million to Latino students. Scholarship awards generally range from $1,000 to $3,000. National Restaurant Association Foundation Scholarships

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) encourages and supports senior high school students, undergraduate students, and educators who are committed to furthering their education and enhancing their careers in the restaurant and food-service industry by awarding scholarships through its scholarships. The NRAEF has awarded more than $1.7 million in 2008 to qualified and deserving students who are committed to furthering their education in restaurant and food-service management. JPMorgan Chase/UNCF Corporate Scholars Programs

The JPMorgan Chase/UNCF Corporate Scholars Program has been established to increase minority student interest in JPMorgan Chase and expand the company’s pool of minority employees. Scholars participate in eight- to ten-week paid internships and receive financial need-based scholarships up to $10,000. Eligible students are sophomore and junior students seeking a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, computer information systems, economics, engineering, finance, marketing, mathematics, operations management, or software engineering and must have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Wal-Mart Foundation Scholarships

Wal-Mart proudly sponsors various scholarship programs. Eligible students may or may not be an employee or Wal-Mart must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Other requirement may need to be met depending on the scholarship to which you are applying. Deadline for submission: various dates

Varsity Tutors Scholarship

Varsity Tutors offers a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest to students who write the best essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage will be able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes will be reviewed by Varsity Tutors and one winner will be chosen who will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. The Eldred World War II Museum Scholarship

The Eldred WWII Museum cordially invites college students to participate in a supplemental self-guided learning experience utilizing the considerable World War II reference resources of the Eldred WWII Museum in Eldred, Pa. The program is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. Students may be subsidized by foundation grants, university grants, or participate independently. Student interns are also welcome. Deadline for submission: consideration made on a rolling basis

Graduate Programs will award $1,000 scholarships to current graduate students and $1,000 toward student loan payments for recent grads within the last five years. The American Chemical Society Scholars Program

The American Chemical Society provides scholarships for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or other chemically related fields such as environmental science, materials science, or toxicology. The program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students to pursue degrees in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. Deadline for submission: November 1 and March 1 annually

Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education Scholarship

Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship

Through the Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship, doctoral students may receive up to four years of financial support while pursuing degrees in the fields of study important to the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration. Areas of specific interest include: nuclear science, materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics, and high-energy density physics. Deadline for application submission is: January 14, 2015

Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Anita Borg devoted her life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. All finalists and recipients will also be invited to an all-expenses paid trip to the Google Headquarters in California. Eligible candidates will be entering their senior year of undergraduate study or are graduate students in the United States pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5. Deadline for submission: January 15, 2015

Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Scholarships

The Jewish federation of Greater Pittsburgh awards grants to students who reside in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. Any Jewish high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student with demonstrated need is eligible to apply. Deadline for submission: February 11, 2015

Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA)

The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society is an association of industry professionals focused on promoting and advancing the field of automation and control. ISA is committed to assisting future automation professionals prepare for, kick off, and make the most of their careers by providing scholarships, discounted student memberships, opportunities to publish papers, student activities, and mentoring other activities. Clark E. DeHaven Scholarship Trust

The Clark E. DeHaven Scholarship is intended to provide financial support to students who demonstrate a commitment to a food service career. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited program that will lead to an undergraduate degree in a field of study designed to prepare students for careers in food service or related areas. The scholarship is intended to be used during the traditional academic year (Fall through Spring) for academic purposes such as tuition, fees, room and board, and/or books. Scholarships will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students only. Deadline for submission: February 16, 2015

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship competition. This scholarship competition is for undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full time in a university preparing for a career in state and local government finance in the United States or Canada. One of more scholarships of $3,500 each is available. Deadline for submission: February 20, 2015

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is pleased to announce the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship. This scholarship competition is for minority students of public administration, accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management) at the upper-division undergraduate or graduate level. One scholarship of $7,000 is available for award. Deadline for submission: February 20,2015

John H. Jones Memorial Scholarship

The John H. Jones Memorial Scholarship Award will consist of registration, meals and lodging at the Annual PRPS State Conference and a certificate. The 2015 PRPS Annual Conference is March 22-25, 2015, at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square in Lancaster, PA.  Minimum qualifications for this award are:

  1. Full-time student in recreation and parks curriculum at a college or university in Pennsylvania at the time of the conference.
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or equivalent.
  3. Outstanding involvement in student activities.

Robert W. Crawford Memorial Scholarship Award

The Robert W. Crawford Memorial Scholarship Award will consist of registration, meals and lodging at the Annual PRPS State Conference, a certificate, plus a $500 scholarship. The 2015 PRPS Annual Conference is March 22-25, 2015, at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square in Lancaster, PA.

Mesothelioma Group Scholarship

The Mesothelioma Group is proud to present the first bi-annual Mesothelioma Group Cancer Scholarship, awarding $1,500 to one male and one female student who have experienced and overcome strong adversity in the face of cancer. Valid applicants include those diagnosed with cancer (active or in remission), those who have lost a parent to cancer, or those whose parent is currently fighting cancer.  Deadline for submission:  December 1, 2014 for Spring 2015 Enrollment; March 1, 2015 for Fall 2015 Enrollment

McKee Scholars

The Estate of John McKee, through the McKee Scholarship Committee, offers scholarships for college or vocational training to high school seniors or graduates (not over age 19 years at the time of the application) who meet all of the following criteria: (a) fatherless boys (i.e., whose biological or lost adoptive father is actually dead or has been declared missing by a competent authority) of any race; "missing" may also include permanently absent, dysfunctional, and not functioning as a father to the applicant; (b) in need of financial assistance; and (c) native to the five-county Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia). Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation — Wildlife Leadership Awards

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Wildlife Leadership Awards Program was established to recognize, encourage, and promote leadership among future wildlife management professionals. Each year, the Elk foundation awards up to ten $2,000 scholarships to outstanding college juniors and seniors studying in a wildlife-related natural resource program. The Pennsylvania Restaurant Association Educational Foundation offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors furthering their education in the hospitality industry and to students currently enrolled in an accredited Hospitality Culinary Arts program in an accredited post-secondary institution. The Drive to Learn Scholarship

Shift Insurance is offering the Drive to Learn scholarship award to college students across the United States to honor the learning done in and outside of classroom walls. If you are currently a full-time student at a four-year university, graduate program, community college, or trade school, Shift Insurance wants to hear from you. Simply tell them about an important learning experience you had while on the road, either as a driver or a passenger. Deadline for submission: May 1, 2015

HubShout Internet Marketing Scholarship

Students who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and are working toward a career in online marketing are invited to apply for the HubShout Scholarship. A scholarship will be awarded to two students ($1,000 each) who have at least a 3.0 GPA and can best demonstrate a passion for online marketing. Deadline for submission: March 1 and November 1 annually

Indiana Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) Scholarship

This scholarship in the amount of $500 is open to undergraduate students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and who have completed at least 28 credits. Applicant must maintain a permanent residence in Indiana County and demonstrate involvement in the campus community as well as a commitment to the local community. Graham Sefton Baskin and Anna Mae Sweeney Baskin Foundation Scholarship

The Graham Sefton Baskin and Anna Mae Sweeney Baskin Foundation awards scholarships for higher education to those person (i) attending or who attended Marion Center Area High School, and (ii) who intend to pursue or are pursing a degree or career in nursing or physical education.  Deadline for submission:  March 15, 2015

 National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

The National Federation of the Blind provides a broad array of scholarships worth $3,000 - $12,000 to recognize achievement by blind scholars. Applicants must be legally blind in both eyes and pursuing a full-time, post-secondary course of study. Scholarship winners also must participate in the entire NFB national convention with all expenses paid. The convention provides opportunities to develop mentoring relationships and network with the nation’s most dynamic leaders of the blind community. Deadline for submission: March 31, 2015

Suzanne M. Lynch Memorial Scholarship

The Suzanne M. Lynch memorial scholarship was created to assist interior design majors who are completing their junior year at one of the following colleges: IUP, LaRoche College, Mercyhurst College, Carlow College, or the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and demonstrate financial need. Deadline for submission: March 31 annually

American Association of University Women Scholarships

Two Scholarships are offered for the 2014-15 Academic Year by the Indiana Branch of the American Association of University Women (co-sponsored by IUP Women’s Studies Program). 

  1. A $500 scholarship award for AY 2014-15 is offered by the Indiana County Branch of the American Association of University Women to an IUP Undergraduate Female Student living in Indiana County with an outstanding academic record who has earned at least 30 IUP credits, and is planning to fulfill the course requirements for a Women’s Studies minor.
  2. A $500 scholarship award for AY 2014-15 is offered by the Indiana County Branch of the American Association of University Women to an IUP Undergraduate or Graduate female student living in Indiana County who considers herself to be a non-traditional student. For the purposes of this scholarship, the granting organization – the Indiana Branch-AAUW – defines ‘non-traditional’ eligibility as a female student whose academic progress has been challenged or delayed because of family, dependents, economic or other extenuating circumstances that have placed her academic progress at risk. Undergraduate applicants must have earned at least 30 IUP undergraduate credits; graduate student applicants must have earned at least 6 IUP graduate credits.

John Family Health Careers Scholarship

The John Family Health Careers Scholarship at Evangelical Community Hospital provides 4 annual awards of $5,000 to students entering college for the purpose of pursuing a career as a respiratory therapist, medical technologist, medical imaging technologist, clinical laboratory scientist, or cytotechnologist. Applicants must have a diploma or equivalent from high schools in Union, Snyder, or Northumberland counties, Pennsylvania. Deadline for submission: April 1 annually

Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association Scholarship

The Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association endeavors to promote health and safety within the mining industry. This scholarship shall be open to persons currently employed or who are pursuing careers in the mining industry, safety, and health fields. High school graduates, undergraduates, and graduate students currently enrolled in a college or university are all eligible to apply. Deadline for submission: April 1 annually

Education Portal—Computer Science and Computer Engineering Academic Scholarship

Through this scholarship, $1,000 is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in computer science. Areas of study that will be considered include computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, database management, computer networking, computer programming, and information technology management. Applicants must complete an application, be a U.S. citizen, must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and must have a minimum of 30 semester hours still to be completed. Deadline for submission: April 1, 2015

AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

AICPA awards scholarships to minority students who show outstanding potential for becoming certified public accountants. Scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate students up to $5,000. Applicants must be enrolled full time. Kids' Chance of Pennsylvania Scholarship

Kids' Chance is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children of workers who were killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident.  Kids' Chance maintains an ongoing scholarship application process to allocate funds that they raise for students.  Deadline for submission:  April 15, 2015

National Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities

The ChairScholars National Scholarship Program provides eligible high school seniors and college freshmen with tuition funds to attend the college or university of their choice. To be considered, an applicant must be physically challenged or may be chair-confined, have a verifiable unmet financial need, have at least a B average, and show some form of significant community service or social contribution in the past. Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Scholarship

The Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Scholarship was created at the Pittsburgh Foundation to build stronger ties between the Pittsburgh advertising community and university-level students entering the advertising field. The motivation for this scholarship is to inspire and reward outstanding candidates who have demonstrated potential success in the field and bring cultural diversity to the Pittsburgh advertising industry. The Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships generally in the amount of $1,500 to undergraduate students (junior and senior level) who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in advertising. HotelsCheap Corporate Scholarship

HotelsCheap awards scholarships of $1,500 to college students in need, who demonstrate a commitment to improving themselves. To apply for the scholarship, the candidate must answer four questions to give the judges insight into each candidate. The applicants whose responses are the most-compelling, persuasive, and well-written as judged by the Headquarters executive team will be considered finalists. Deadline for submission: April 15

The Noyce Scholarship

The Noyce Scholarship is sponsored by the Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation in Pennsylvania with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The scholarship is intended for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in science or mathematics who intend to teach in a "high need" school. The maximum award is $10,000 annually. Deadline for submission: April 20 for Fall Awards; October 20 Spring Awards

Senior Care Scholarship

Available to students enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's, or graduate level program in any field related to gerontology at an accredited school. This includes students studying medicine, nursing, social work, or sociology. Award winners will be selected based on a letter of introduction and a 500-word essay on why they have chosen to go into a field that will serve our aging population. Deadline for submission: April 30

David A. Bielski Educational Scholarship

The award recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student attending any accredited degree program in any System of Higher Education. The applicant must be a union member, or a dependent child of a union member, or a grandchild residing in the home of a union member in good standing of a local union affiliated with the NWPA Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO. A 500 word essay must be submitted on the topic, "What made you choose your major/minor and how will it impact others?" Deadline for submission: May 3

SunTrust Off to College Scholarship

High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for their first-year expenses at an accredited college. It is free to enter, and one winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2014, through May 15, 2015. Only one entry per person for each drawing; however, students can register after each drawing for the next scheduled drawing. Submissions begin October 31, 2014 and may be submitted through May 15, 2015.

National Health Service Corps Scholarship

The NHSC Scholarship Program (SP) awards scholarships each year to students pursuing careers in primary care. In return, students commit to serving for two to four years, upon graduation and completion of training. Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) Hospitality Scholarship 

HE&R is providing five PASSHE students, who are pursuing a degree that benefits the hospitality industry, such as:  hospitality, marketing, human resources, information technology, or criminal justice, with a $1,000 scholarship.  This one time scholarship award is available to juniors and seniors who meet the eligibility requirements as well as the student requirements.  Applicants must:  be a resident of Pennsylvania, earned and passed 60 college credits, and show academic promise by upholding a 3.0 GPA or better. Glen Beach Memorial Scholarship, Bedford County Conservation Scholarship

The Bedford County Conservation District is offering a $500 scholarship in honor of the late Glen Beach and his contributions in conservation tillage, funded through the No-Till Rental Equipment Program. The scholarship is available to Bedford County High School graduates and/or Bedford County residents who are undergraduate college students in the field of agriculture, environmental studies, soils, or natural resources. William Plank Memorial Scholarship, Bedford County Conservation District

A special $500 memorial scholarship has been established in honor of environmentalist William Plank for his dedication to conservation. The William Plank Memorial Scholarship is available to an undergraduate college student in the field of environmental studies. Courses should be related to natural resources, soils, plants, animal science, agriculture, or forestry. Applicants should be sophomore, junior, or senior status. New Economy Technology Scholarship (NETS) Program

The New Economy Technology Scholarship Program is administrated jointly by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This scholarship makes financial aid available to undergraduates studying in an approved science field.

The goal of this program is to help address the critical need to educate and retain a workforce of highly trained technology experts that will help Pennsylvania attract and support new employers.
