The ACE online master’s program has helped me to reflect on my professional experiences in social services by allowing me to apply the course material to my work. I’m using what I learn in the courses to design programs to meet real needs of clients and coworkers in the social services. My goal is to be able to implement these ideas as I further develop my career.

During my study in the ACE program, I was able to gain much needed knowledge on leadership, training, and teaching. I have been able to use all of these to enhance my leadership and training skills. The most compelling objective I have acquired from my experience is how to foster a positive learner-teacher relationship.

Prior to enrolling in the ACE program, my “passion tank” was on “E.” My experience as an ACE student instantly refilled my “tank” and renewed my passion for education and lifelong learning. It was an honor to study under Professors Jeff Ritchey and Gary Dean as they are both supportive, innovative leaders in the field of Adult and Community Education. I utilize the skills and knowledge that I gained through this program every day in my professional practice.  Through the ACE program, you will be exposed to adult learning/developmental theories, program planning, organizational development, research, and so much more. You will find that the curriculum, along with the support of the professors and your peers, will prepare you for both your personal and professional goals.

As an advisor, I am a resource for adults, assisting them with every aspect related to college completion. I help adult learners through one-on-one advising, workshops, referrals, outreach, and serve as coordinator of the G!P Ambassador Program.

I made the best decision to apply and enroll in the ACE program. The ACE program allowed me to gain a refined understanding in planning, development and issues concerning diverse learners. Part of what makes the program so wonderful is that Dr. Dean and Dr. Ritchey are involved every step of the process. They are experts who have the ability to make any concept relatable. They also are great at stretching learners to produce their best work. Most people can only hope to experience personable educators who truly practice what they teach.

The ACE online master’s program is one of the best decisions I have made. The online flexibility was a good fit for my career and academic goals. As a nontraditional student, I felt somewhat intimidated about returning to school, especially for a master’s. Professors Gary Dean and Jeff Ritchey instilled confidence and self-development. I now use learning theories on a daily basis to provide nutrition and diabetes education. If you want to grow as an individual and professional, consider ACE your pathway.

Finally being able to put a name and identity to the work I’d been doing for many years was gratifying. I learned to be more confident in my work as an adult educator. It’s been of great benefit to me and my students to experiment with new learning techniques in the classroom/lab setting. Every time my students do a collaborative assignment for me, I’m reminded of the many projects I worked on with my fellow ACE students.

When I enrolled in ACE, I was restless in my career. I was a successful clinician and manager but wasn’t content. At that time, I was a regular guest lecturer in an occupational therapy program and enjoyed it very much. Enrolling in the ACE online master’s program was the first concrete step out of my comfort zone and towards my ultimate goal of teaching and research. Now I work in higher education and love it.
